Big VA/Marijuana Update for Veterans! πΊπΈ
βThereβs been a lot of talk about recent moves on medical ma*****na. Here is the actual breakdown of what it means for us:
ββ
The Big Change: On December 18, 2025, President Trump signed an Executive Order to fast-track moving ma*****na from Schedule I to Schedule III. This officially recognizes that it has "accepted medical use" and is a huge step toward ending the federal ban.
ββ
VA Research is Opening Up: The biggest win for veterans is that the VA can now do full-scale medical research on using cannabis for PTSD, chronic pain, and TBIs without the old red tape. The goal is to create better "standards of care" for veterans.
ββ
Your Benefits are SAFE: Using medical ma*****na in a legal state will not cause you to lose your VA disability, healthcare, or any other veteran benefits.
ββ
Medicare & CBD: The order also starts a pilot program for seniors and those on Medicare to get access to certain CBD products for pain management.
ββ οΈ The Catch: Even with this order, VA doctors still cannot prescribe it yet. Federal law (which requires Congress to act) still technically blocks them from writing the script. However, they are now encouraged to discuss it as part of your care plan.
ββ οΈ Federal Property Rule: Remember, since itβs still a "controlled substance," you still cannot bring it onto VA grounds or into a VA hospital.
βSummary: We aren't at full "VA prescriptions" yet, but the door is officially open!
