You know how people say, “Show me who you spend time with and I’ll tell you who you are”?

I’ve been thinking about that a lot after attending a beautiful wedding in Greece.

What struck me wasn’t only the bride and groom. It was the people surrounding them. Young and old, there was such warmth, joy, thoughtfulness and genuine care for one another.

And then you look at the bride and groom and the wonderful families who raised them and think, of course.

People shape people.

Scripture says iron sharpens iron, and I think there is so much truth in that.

Who are you spending time with who makes you a better person?

And maybe the harder question:
Are you someone who makes the people around you better?

What a beautiful reminder this trip has been.

I still remember exactly where I was on September 11.

I was in a Bible study. When it ended, everyone turned their phones back on, and what followed was a horrible symphony of calls and messages as we began to understand the atrocities of what had happened.

My first thought was simple.

Where are my children, and how do I get them home with me before something else happens?

I think so many parents felt that instinct that day. Just get the people you love close.

And then I did what I have learned to do in the moments when life feels bigger than me. I turned to God.

I was reminded that He is bigger than our fear, bigger than our circumstances, and present even in the things we cannot begin to understand.

I've learned to thank God for trusting me with hard things. But on that day, the things that felt hard in my own life suddenly seemed so small compared with what so many families were facing.

Twenty-five years later, I still remember.

I remember the lives lost.

I remember the families whose lives changed forever.

I remember the first responders who ran toward what everyone else was running from.

And I remember how quickly everything we thought was important became secondary to the people we loved.

Today, I am remembering them, praying for their families, and thanking God for the people He has entrusted to me.

Sweet baby Sage got to meet her beautiful Great Aunt Nana Maxine.

There’s something so special about watching generations come together and creating memories we’ll treasure forever.

So much love in one sweet moment.

Something I keep thinking about lately is how your story is shaping your message, even when you don't realize it.

Moses couldn't have known how his everyday decisions would impact generations to come. Every choice we make today is preparing us for the influence we'll have tomorrow.

What makes a great leader?

We talk about that question all the time.

But after three decades in executive search, I think there's another question that's just as important:

How do you actually find one?

Because knowing what great leadership looks like and knowing how to find the right leader for a particular organization are two very different things.

This month in The People Priority, I'm pulling back the curtain on the "secret sauce" behind finding exceptional talent, including a few lessons from the people I get to work alongside every day.

If you care about great people, great leadership, and making better talent decisions, I'd love to have you join the conversation.

Some of the best team building happens when the workday ends.

A little time around the fire pit was the perfect way to wrap up our time together last week: great conversations, plenty of laughter, and the chance to simply enjoy being together.

Because strong teams aren’t built through work alone. They’re built through relationships, trust, and the moments in between.

Grateful for this team and the time together!

What I try to remind leaders...

You don't have to know everything.

Leadership isn't something you master before you begin.

You grow by leading. Every conversation, every challenge, and every decision shapes the leader you're becoming.
