pwinter & company

pwinter & company We specialize in regenerating management processes inside established companies - and in incorporati We founded our boutique consulting company in 2005.

The founding partners share a fascination with business culture and the central role it plays in the success or failure of any enterprise. Ironically, success is almost always fatal - it is a rare company that can maintain a capacity for risk and competitive intensity in the face of predictable profitability. After all, it's one thing to climb the mountain. It's another thing to live up there. Est

ablishing a process of constant regeneration is the challenge. We know how to do that. It's what we do. We've done it for a global Internet company, for start-ups, for all kinds of clients. We learned the art and science of cultural regeneration the hard way - we each tried to turn established media companies around in the face of digital competition. Our new book, "Cowboys and Cannibals - Inside the Fight for the Future of Newspapers" chronicles that experience. We do not issue reports. Typically, at least one principal is embedded with senior management over a six-month period. Our operating style is different - we like to call it "truth without consequences." You see, we're less interested in the return gig than we are in helping you confront the forces of stasis and market myopia that are undermining your company every day. We are only interested in significant, challenging, long-term projects. We turn down more work than we accept because it's the idea that drives us, not just the remuneration. Besides, we're all "retired" and can afford to be picky - we choose to stay in the game for no other reason than we enjoy what we do and we enjoy each other's company. Peter Winter is a co-founding partner and president of the company.

Calvin Coolidge - “Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts." Here's a twist on the same theme...

Just three years ago, Amazon was flush, thanks to the pandemic boom in online shopping. Finished 2020 with $84 billion in cash. Bezos, then CEO, never got anywhere by being cautious. He kept right on spending and burned through it. Prime Video - notably the MGM acquisition - is a typically big bet. It will pay off, and this too, will pass...
