The Unemployment Rate for Black Women Continue to Rise!

The unemployment rate for Black women saw a sharp increase in August 2025, rising to 7.5%. This rate is significantly higher than the overall unemployment rate and has been steadily climbing from around 5% in early 2025. This surge is attributed in part to job cuts in the federal workforce, where Black women are disproportionately represented, and may also stem from the impact of AI and decreased investment in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. Economists view these rising rates as a troubling sign for the broader economy, as this demographic is often the first to experience downturns!
