In 2024 I was riding an escalator in Detroit and turned to my husband: “Do you think people would pay for an autism navigator? Not just someone who tells you what services your kid needs, but someone who actually finds them like a recruiter, or a concierge.”
That question became CAE. After my own family’s diagnosis, I hit the same wall most parents hit: a report full of recommendations and no one whose job it was to actually help me with any of it. It became a full-time job, and one I was winging every single day. I kept thinking, “why isn’t there someone to help me?”
So I created the role that was missing. Patient navigation has been standard of care in oncology for years, because the data proved that having someone dedicated to coordinating care changes outcomes.
Autism families haven’t had that same standard of care (at least here in GA).
