In September of 1958 Rev. Martin Luther King Jr was attacked and stabbed in the chest. Once at the hospital it was revealed that the tip of the blade as on the edge of his aorta, the main artery. Once that punctured you drown in your own blood. It was report in the news that if he had sneezed he would have died.
Dr. King later remembered a letter he received that said.
"Dear Dr. King: I am a ninth-grade student at the White Plains High School, While it should not matter, I would like to mention that I'm a white girl. I read in the paper of your misfortune and of your suffering. And I read that if you had sneezed, you would have died. And I'm simply writing you to say that I'm so happy that you didn't sneeze.’
Today, 61 years later, I am so very glad he did not sneeze.
Today, as a Nation we recognize Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his impact on us. We are grateful for the man he was and the dream he shared.
Elim Services has the pleasure to serve in communities that have homes filled with all nationalities, races, color- largely in part because Dr. King had a dream.
