This month and every month, we're honored to support LGBTQ+ families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

Each week for the month of June, we’ll be sharing resources to further support the sexual and family wellness of this cherished community.

Today we’re highlighting KIND Clinic: a full-service sexual health and wellness clinic serving all members of the community regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, insurance status, or ability to pay. Their services include PrEP/PEP access, HIV testing and care, STI testing and treatment, and gender-affirming care.

Today we celebrate the work of dedicated homebirth midwives across the world, and reiterate the right for families to choose the context in which they bring their babies earthside.

Research shows homebirth is safe for low risk pregnancies when a skilled, licensed midwife is present. We love our work, and we’re honored to do this everyday.

To the midwives that came before us, we thank you. To the midwives who come after us, we’ll continue to uplift you. Happy International Homebirth Day 🧡

Our care doesn’t end at birth. Kaylaa’s story is just one of the reasons why.

Two days after welcoming baby Acey earthside, Kaylaa was placed on bed rest due to a prolapse. Michelle was there same day for a full check-up, no hesitation.

By day seven, Kaylaa was running a fever and experiencing heavy bleeding. She was admitted to the hospital. She was diagnosed with some retained membranes, which likely contributed to the uterus being heavy, and was cared for by her hospital team.

Michelle went with the family to the ER.

Kaylaa, an L&D nurse, spent her recovery in her own unit, cared for by the same people she works alongside every day. We think about that a lot. Even someone who knows birth as well as she does, needs support around her.

This is what we mean when we talk about supported care. It’s not just the birth. It’s the days after, the hard moments, the ones nobody posts about.

We are so grateful Kaylaa let us share this part of her story too. She and baby Acey are doing beautifully. 💛

A safe, supported birth is a birthright.

We love and respect the work does in our community. They provide direct financial support to black women and families in the Austin area pursuing home birth, as well as funding for black student midwives who are building the next generation of care.

Birth equity isn’t an abstract idea. It’s showing up with resources, relationships, and real support. BHBMATX does exactly that.

Today is International Day of the Midwife 💛

This year's theme is One Million More Midwives: a call from the International Confederation of Midwives rooted in a simple truth: the world needs one million more midwives to meet essential health needs.

And today, we’re thinking about the midwives we’ll never meet.
👣 The ones traveling hours by foot or motorbike to reach a family in a remote village.
❤️‍🩹 The ones working in refugee camps and conflict zones, attending births in unimaginable circumstances.
🏥 The ones staffing under-resourced hospitals in communities where they are the entire maternal health system.

🩺 The ones who show up regardless of external circumstance, because a baby is coming and a family needs them—and that’s simply what midwives do.

When midwives are educated, supported, and able to practice their full scope of care, outcomes improve.
Maternal and newborn deaths decrease
Care becomes more accessible and more respectful
That’s not just global health data. We see it in our own practice, in our own community, every day.
