There is a significant difference between anger and passion, yet they are often mistaken for one another.

Anger is usually rooted in hurt, frustration, or feeling unheard. It often seeks to protect us but can unintentionally create distance between people.

Passion, on the other hand, is rooted in purpose. It fuels conviction, inspires change, and invites others into meaningful conversations—even when the topics are difficult.

Knowing the difference can become the bridge to understanding instead of the gap that widens resentment and animosity.

In our workplaces, communities, families, and faith spaces, we don’t always have to agree. But we can choose curiosity over assumptions, dialogue over defensiveness, and understanding over division.

Before reacting, ask yourself:
Am I responding from my wounds, or from my purpose?

That one question has the power to transform conversations, strengthen relationships, and create healthier environments where people feel seen, heard, and respected.

Growth begins when we learn not only to manage our emotions, but to understand what is driving them.

There is a subtle form of self-protection that many of us engage in without even realizing it.

We set the bar lower than what we’re truly capable of, not because we lack potential, but because we’re trying to protect ourselves from the pain of disappointment.

We convince ourselves not to hope too much.
Not to dream too big.
Not to expect success.

Sometimes, we begin grieving the possibility of failure before we’ve even taken the first step.

In psychology, this can resemble anticipatory loss—emotionally preparing ourselves for an outcome that has not happened. It may also present as self-handicapping, where fear of failure leads us to lower our expectations or unintentionally create barriers that protect our self-esteem if things don’t go as planned (Schwinger et al., 2021).

Research also suggests that while setbacks can temporarily affect motivation, avoiding meaningful goals altogether is not the answer (HĂśpfner & Keith, 2021). In contrast, maintaining realistic optimism has been associated with greater persistence, emotional well-being, and continued effort toward long-term goals (Lench et al., 2021).

At Wisdom With Purpose, PLLC, we believe healing isn’t about eliminating fear—it’s about learning to move forward despite it. Growth often begins when we stop mourning futures that haven’t happened and start investing in the possibilities that still can.

You don’t have to guarantee success before you begin.
You only have to give yourself permission to try.

What goal have you been holding back from because you’re afraid of missing the mark? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

Uniformity vs. Uniqueness

Your daily actions often reveal what you believe you’re worth.

Too often, we disqualify ourselves because of our past. We compare ourselves to others, conform to expectations, and forget that we were never created to blend in.

Your mistakes don’t define your value, they simply become part of your story.

Instead of asking, “Am I enough?” ask, “How can I use what I’ve been given?”

Your uniqueness isn’t a weakness to overcome. It’s a strength to embrace.

Reflection: Are your daily choices reflecting your true worth, or the limitations you’ve accepted because of your past?
