Something I do every Sunday is rest. Truly resting from the normal work week and it's responsibilities is a somewhat new thing for our family despite talking about it for a while. We say 'no' to hanging out with friends or big outings. We say 'no' to cleaning or new home projects.

But we say 'yes' to the peace that comes from knowing we worked hard all week and today we choose to put it all aside. We nap, we eat leftovers, we get outside, we play and we enjoy having no where to be but with eachother.

Today Josh and I got some time together to connect and recharge on a trail.

How are you spending your Sunday?

I see you online service provider.

I know you wish you could take a big step back from the day to day tasks inside your business.

The hard work you are putting in now, will allow you to take that step back in the future.

I know because I have been there.

Here are some things you can do to prepare for that time:
- Write down where you want to be
- Brainstorm who you need in your business to get there
- Document everything you do
- Work hard WITH boundaries
- Believe that you'll get there...because I believe you will!

Right now, I am obsessed with Notion's AI feature. It has made documenting processes inside my clients' businesses in a clear and concise way so much easier.

My team is in Notion all day every day (it's our project management and communication tool as well as where we house our team resources), but I have been recommending the AI feature to assist them in improving our client communication and action items/plans.

If you haven't already, I would highly suggest trying it out. What are you obsessed with right now in your business?

My top recommendation to any online service provider --> document your process.

Whether you have a team of 10 or you're currently running solo, the things you do every single week need to be documented.

Nothing is worse than realizing you need to hire, but you don't have any resources set up to help that hire get started.

Don't overcomplicate it.

One of the best ways you can begin doing this is simply recording your screen as you complete a task that you do on a regular basis.

Store it in your resource hub (my favorite spot is in Notion, but Google drive will work fine also).

Name that recording something searchable so you can find it when you need it (ie. TEAM: paying subcontractors).

This simple practice makes the idea of expanding your team (or handing over something to an existing team member) WAY less stressful!

I hope you are able to spend the day with your loved ones, celebrating the very best gift we were ever given - a risen Savior!

Today I am reminded to slow down and reflect on all that God HAS done and IS doing in my life and the life of my family.

What are you reminded of this Easter Sunday?

March 17th is a big deal in our house. Not because of green beer or anything lucky.

But because 8 years ago today, I married my best friend.

We’ve changed so much since then.

We’ve matured. We’ve laughed a lot. We’ve enjoyed parenting our two babies here on earth and we’ve mourned the loss of our sweet girl who was taken too soon. We’ve made mistakes and we’ve apologized. We’ve been vulnerable. We’ve celebrated one other in our wins and we’ve cried alongside each other in our failures.

Most importantly, we’ve grown closer to Jesus each year. Intentionally seeking Him has brought us to intentionally seek each other.

This year we’ve become relentless with saying no to so many good things. Because we know that our yes comes at a cost somewhere. And in the past it came at the cost of us.

It is my absolute joy to say yes to you and our marriage every single day Joshua Lewis. Happy Anniversary babe!

Thursday is my Friday…

I take Fridays off - which means there are certain things I do each Thursday to wrap out my work week.

1. Zero out notifications inside Notion (my favorite project/team management tool) - Notifications pile up quickly in one business day. I like to end Thursday at zero so Monday isn’t overwhelming.

2. Close the loop on open projects - Updating projects on my end in order for the rest of the team to continue their part while I am out. Progress while I am out is important!

3. Look ahead at next week - Taking a glance at meetings and deadlines for the following week allows me to touch in with team members as necessary and ensure we have what we need. There’s nothing worse than starting a Monday scrambling

What do you do to close out your work week so you (and your team) hit the ground running on Monday? Let me know in the comments.

You already know this, but building simple, repeatable systems from the chaos you see in your business, on top of all the things that are required of you everyday in life isn’t always easy. It takes organization and dedicated time to do both of these things well.

Something that helps me keep my life and business organized is compartmentalizing my day into business items and life items. The left hand side of my planner has business items (calls, deadlines, reminders) while the right hand side of my planner has my life items (kid’s activities, church events, homeschool details). For my Google calendar these life and business items are differentiated by colors. Each week, I take a look at my Google calendar and bring all the things over into my paper planner.

Whether it’s my paper planner or Google calendar, having these noticeable differences/categories allows me easily see what each day holds and adjust the flexible things depending on the load of each day. A simple, repeatable system that i’ve been doing for awhile now and it’s honestly the only way I can keep myself organized.

How do you stay organized in your life and business?

Being at home with my kids is by far the best part about the work that I do. I love my clients and how I get to support their businesses, but it honestly doesn’t compare to getting a front row seat to my babies growing up, learning and becoming their own little people and personalities.

Unpopular opinion? Maybe…but one that is still so true in my life.

I am all about giving my best to my business and clients - when it’s work time. But my business isn’t just about helping female service providers build smart and scaleable systems to run their businesses day to day - it’s a means to live my dream at home with my children while helping my clients build their own dreams.

And honestly, sometimes business and family life can get out of whack priority wise. I am actually in a season of looking at the things on my plate (in business and life) and making hard decisions on what MUST go in order to have the business AND family life that I desire.

Work hard. It’s important and GOOD. But don’t let it consume you and take away from the other important things in your life. ← why systems are my favorite :)

Whether it’s success, happiness, peace, freedom or anything else…maybe NOT following the advice of (well-meaning and smart) people around you, is just what you need to do today.

Happy Monday friends! Here’s to going out and doing the thing that doesn’t make sense to others but brings you peace.

Are you the type that does everything yourself? How’s that going for ya?

There are lots of reasons people do all their business tasks themselves but I’ve found these are the most common ones:

1. They know they need help but aren’t sure where to even start
2. They’ve been burnt by delegation in the past
3. They can, so they do

A client of mine said this, “I find it hard to explain what I want and so delegating always seemed like more trouble that it was worth. Working with Alyssa was like taking a burden off my shoulders I didn’t even realize I was carrying!”

1. Start by documenting the process of the top 3 things you do on a recurring basis. Can someone else take these over?
2. Delegation can be painless with the right resources for your team
3. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should

Whether you can feel the heavy load you are carrying in your business or not, delegating is necessary. But it needs to be done the right way or you’ll have PTSD from hiring.

Need some guidance on how to lighten your load from someone who implements systems to do exactly that? Book a call with me.

For me, Fridays are a fun little change up in my schedule. I don’t work in my business on Fridays. But I’d still call my Fridays a work day, at least part of it.

Our homeschool co-op meets on Friday mornings and while I am not at my desk, there’s still a lot of work that goes into that from myself and all the other moms who attend.

I’m either teaching Botany (the study of plants), helping out in Biology (the study of living organisms), or taking some time to actually get to talk to other adults…without interruptions 🙂

I love that the flexibility of my business allows me to have Fridays free for a different type of work. And then, of course, a nap when we get home in the afternoon!

What are your Fridays like?
