Families in your market are comparing you to other centers before they ever schedule a tour. Do you know what they're seeing?

Understanding your competitive position (what you offer, how you stack up, and where you have room to stand out) is one of the most practical things you can do for enrollment. It's not just about price. It's about knowing what makes your program worth choosing and making sure families can see it.

We're bringing this conversation to the Teaching Strategies for Early Childhood Education Summit on Wednesday, August 19 from 1:15–1:45pm CT. Come ready to think differently about how you position your program.

Registration details coming soon - stay tuned!

How different are you from competitors? No, really.

The childcare industry has gotten better at quality and that's genuinely good for kids! But it means the thing that used to set centers apart isn't setting anyone apart anymore. Families touring your center this fall are comparing you against competitors who look, on paper, a lot like you.

So what do you actually lead with? That's the question worth sitting with before back-to-school season hits. The schools filling seats fastest right now aren't the ones with the best bullet points. They're the ones who are clearest on what makes them the right fit for a specific family and who know how to show it, not just say it.

Ask yourself: What's the one thing your families would say about your center that they couldn't say about anyone else?

Is your tour sending the right signals?

The tour is often the moment a family decides if your program is the right fit. Most tour experiences follow the same script: families walk the building and hear about the curriculum. They leave having heard a pitch, not feeling seen.
Parents want something different. They want to feel like you see them and their child specifically, not just a spot to fill.
Our research shows families consistently name personalization as one of the things they want most in an enrollment experience, and one of the things they find least often.
A few good questions can change that dynamic so we've put together five that you can work into your next tour!

Back-to-school is right around the corner - do you know what you're charging this fall? Most early childhood education operators set tuition based on instinct or what the center down the street is doing. There's a better way. Join us next Wednesday for a free webinar where we'll walk you through a step-by-step process for setting your price based on actual data. (Registration link in comments!)

Are you pricing based on the center down the street?
Many childcare owners tell us they set tuition based on what nearby competitors charge. That's a reasonable starting point, but it can also be a costly mistake. Not all childcare providers compete in the same market segment.
At Tuscany, we divide the private childcare market into five Quality/Price Tiers™, each with distinct pricing levels, feature sets, and parent expectations. A center charging $325/week may be appropriately priced in one market position and significantly underpriced or overpriced in another.
Before matching a competitor's tuition, ask:
✅ Are they truly your direct competitor?
✅ Do parents view your programs as comparable?
✅ Does your quality, experience, and positioning justify a different price point?
Strategic pricing isn't about copying nearby providers, it's about understanding where your center fits in the market and pricing accordingly.
Have more confidence setting price this back-to-school season. Join our FREE webinar on June 24th for a walkthrough of how you can approach your price setting from a data-informed perspective. Registration details in the comments!

Parents have a rubric for evaluating childcare. Do you know what's on it?

Parents notice your playground and lobby but the categories they weigh most heavily are those that are often least visible. Categories like school experience, teacher quality, and communication take time and intention to make visible to prospective parents. If you don't know how your program stacks up on what parents actually care about, you can't price your program accurately.

Join our FREE June 24 webinar to learn how to evaluate your program through a parent's eyes and set tuition that reflects the true value of your program this upcoming back-to-school season. Registration details in the comments!
