PORTABLE GENERATOR SAFETY: Never backfeed your home

Before the next outage, never connect a portable generator to a wall outlet with a male-to-male cord. That sends electricity backward into the home’s wiring, can bypass built-in protection, and creates electrocution and fire hazards for your household, neighbors, and utility workers.

If a generator will supply home circuits, the safe setup uses properly selected transfer equipment installed by a qualified electrician. Operate portable generators outdoors only, well away from doors, windows, and vents—never in a house or garage.

Quick Q: Can I plug a generator into a dryer outlet or regular wall outlet to power the house? A: No. That is dangerous backfeeding. Use the generator only as its manufacturer directs, or have the correct transfer equipment evaluated and installed for your home.

Char-Broil Bistro Pro electric grills with manufacturing date codes 2510, 2511 or 2512 are recalled because the grounding wire for the heating element can disconnect, removing fault protection and creating an electric-shock hazard.

Affected model numbers:
25302145, 25302146, 25302147, 25302148, 25302149, 25302150, 25302151, 25302159 and 25302163.

Stop using an affected grill immediately. Contact Char-Broil for a free repair kit and follow the company’s repair instructions.

Quick Q: Can I keep using the grill if it seems to work normally? A: No. If the model number and date code match the recall, stop using it until the official repair is completed.

Don’t ignore it. Warm or discolored faceplates, buzzing or sizzling sounds, a burning odor, and flickering or dimming lights can be warning signs of an overload or wiring problem. Stop using the affected outlet or switch and arrange for a qualified electrician to inspect it. Do not remove the cover or try to diagnose live wiring yourself.

Quick Q: Is a slightly warm outlet normal? A: An ordinary wall outlet or switch that feels unusually warm or looks discolored should be checked. Avoid using it until a qualified electrician can determine the cause in person.
