4:50 PM 2/13 | A complex winter storm will impact the region beginning late Sunday night and continuing through Tuesday. In typical El Nino fashion for this time of year, this storm will produce significant liquid-equivalent precipitation amounts for much of the Mid Atlantic. Low pressure will take an inland track from the Tenessee Valley northeastward into the Mid Atlantic. Please check official statements from the NWS here (http://www.weather.gov/erh/) We also have details on our website (http://www.footsforecast.org/2016/02/feel-like-groundhog-day-yet.html)

Snow is expected to begin late Sunday night over the region. This will continue much of the day on President's Day, with a wintry mix developing during the afternoon and evening from southeast to northwest. Precipitation will changeover from snow to a brief mix of snow and sleet. Snow and freezing rain should then takeover for many areas.

With temperatures expected to climb above freezing by Monday night, plain rain is expected by the overnight hours for the metro areas and locations to the south and east. Areas north and west may have a tough time changing over to all rain, but at this time a changeover is expected here as well. Rain will be moderate to heavy Tuesday morning before gradually clearing out later in the day.

As for accumulations, we think a few inches of snow is likely for the metro areas and locations to the north and west from late Sunday night through Monday afternoon. Freezing rain accumulations up to one quarter inch will also be possible before temperatures rise above freezing. For locations south and east of the metro areas, we expect snowfall accumulations to be around an inch or two with minor ice accumulations.

Should the storm track a bit more to the west, snowfall amounts would be reduced and there would be a faster changeover to rain. A more eastward track would allow for slightly more snow and ice amounts with a slower transition to rain.

2:50 PM 2/7 | A winter storm will impact much of the region late Monday through Tuesday, with accumulating snow for many areas. A low pressure system will dive down from the Great Lakes into the Mid Atlantic on Monday and will become a coastal low by early Tuesday. Any light rain will turn to snow from northwest to southeast during the evening and overnight hours.

SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS: We expect snowfall amounts to reach 2-4 inches for the Baltimore metro and the northern and western suburbs of DC. For DC and the rest of the immediate metro, we expect snowfall accumulations of 1-3 inches. Our forecast amounts for Southern Maryland are a coating to one inch. For locations east of I-95, most of the snowfall accumulations should occur Monday night, with little accumulation during the day Tuesday. This is due to the expectation of temperatures rising into the mid and upper 30s in these areas on Tuesday. Higher snowfall amounts are likely in any locations where enhanced bands may develop.
This map is from the NWS (http://www.weather.gov/lwx/winter ) and shows their projections for the region. Areas outside the map such as the MD eastern shore and southern PA are expected to see similar accumulations to the county adjacent to you.

4:35 PM 1/25 - Good evening all!

We know cabin fever may be starting to kick in for some of you still stranded! Please be patient as plows are working extremely hard to get to all of the streets. It's been especially tough with the huge amounts of snow.

Thank you Grace W. for this photo from the Walther Blvd area in E Baltimore this afternoon showing just how impassable side streets still are.

Here is an overall preliminary map from the National Climate Data Center that depicts the massive slew of heavy snowfall over the region.

The potential for another snow event for this week is looking less and less likely for the area.

Have a safe and warm night!

RADAR UPDATE: 9:52 PM

Widespread coverage of snowfall over the entire region. You will see times where things slow down with areas of breaks in the precipitation deck move in with the system and then time when things pick up as heavier bands start to set up, throughout the event.

Into the overnight, winds will definitely start to howl, especially for the more eastern real estate. This is when the threat for power outages will be at its highest. Snowfall will also pick up with lightning/thunder likely into the morning hours.

This Red Cross Checklist has many excellent tips and steps, as in the ones you can do now at home. Go to the enclosed link and print the document now while you have power and look it over.

Recommendations from our team.. and please add yours below!
1. Gather up all the flashlights and batteries now. Have them in a central location where everyone knows how to locate them. In enough flashlights, consider putting an extra in each bathroom..
2. Candles and Matches! Hide under lock and key from children. This is not a time to play Williamsburg Candle Festival. We use them for dinner atmosphere lighting only.
3. Your devices-- get everyone in the house to ALWAYS HAVE the device plugged in while in use. Keep it fully charged!
4. Charging a device **in the car**?? Make sure you CLEAR SNOW from the exhaust pipe to prevent Carbon Monoxide poisoning!
5. Showers: May sound strange, but get your shower tonight, and everyone else as well. That way your tank supply can rewarm overnight hopefully before an outages occur.
