This past Monday morning we let our sweet Moon baby go to rest. She passed at home peacefully & with incredible grace, love, & dignity.
If you met Moon, you know how truly special she was. Full of life & so much affection for every soul that she met. Losing her this week was a surprise. She’d been blind 8 of her 12 years but was always healthy.
Six months ago we came home & found her docile & confused with a swollen left back leg. X-rays showed severe hip dysplasia & a fused spine. We had no idea she had these chronic pain & skeletal issues.
She was always so active, the most active cat I’ve ever called mine. Her hip & back degeneration finally caught up to her. Being blind & having the fused spine, she would not be a candidate for hip surgery.
She recovered in February after her leg swelling & for the past six months she’s been spoiled & loved, still so full of life while also having to slow down. We didn’t know how much time we would get with her.
Thursday we noticed her ear hair was suddenly balding, she was trembling Friday morning before we gave her some pain meds to help, Saturday I had a wedding & it was so painful to be scheduling Lap of Love while on my lunch break. I’m so grateful for the love my sweet couple showed me.
I missed Moon’s second to last day of life working while Madison took care of her but I was blessed to get to spend Moon’s last day giving her the best foods, so much love & cuddles. From midnight to 10 am Monday morning was the most beautiful experience I’ve ever had as a cat parent.
The pain meds helped Moon fight through the pain to enjoy her last hours. Window time smelling the outdoors, kisses, so many kisses. She jumped into our arms from the floor for the first time in so long. Something she loved to do.
Helping Moon cross over was an honor. I feel so lucky to have been able to be there for her. I had to fly out to Colorado for a wedding just two days later. I’m on my flight home now. Soon I’ll be reunited with Madison & our remaining senior kitties. A new life awaits us.
I’ll hold Moon’s love close to my heart forever.
