Many business owners fall into the same traps thinking that they’re doing the right thing. They may not even recognize that they’re making any mistakes at all.
Here are a few of the most common pitfalls we see business owners run into, and how you can fix them:
🧁 Working In the Business, Not On It: For example, a bakery owner focusing on being the best baker, not running a successful baking business. (Shout out to Michael E. Ge**er for pointing this out in The E-Myth!)
🛠️ The Fix: Find trusted people (other good bakers) to keep things moving while you step back and strategize.
💰 Not Being Mindful of Personal Financials: Of course, working on the business is crucial, but issues with personal finances add up, are often more stressful, and can get a business owner in trouble.
🛠️ The Fix: Pay yourself. Treat your fee like a regular expense, and make sure it's enough to keep yourself afloat each month.
✂️ Taking Shortcuts with Staffing: A bad hire costs you time, money, and productivity. Short-changing someone will result in poor performance and high turnover.
🛠️ The Fix: Make the investments in your staff when you can. This means paying a sustainable salary and setting them up for success.
