Get Repost App • The 250 Project In 1977 at a United Nations conference on discrimination against Indigenous populations in the Americas, participants proposed replacing Columbus Day with a day honoring Indigenous peoples.
And today we continue that tradition.
Because we no longer accept revisionist histories that champion our oppressors, silence our comrades and erase the ongoing genocidal projects that threaten Indigenous communities across the America’s.
Today we stand alongside tribal systems.
Today we recognize the violence broken treaties and agreements.
Today we acknowledge the buffalo, the cornfields, the peach orchards, bean crops, and salmon fisheries that were destroyed in order to cause massive deaths.
Today we honor the food ways and ecosystems challenged by the violence.
Today we cry alongside the waters that have been diminished.
Today we remember the children lost, trafficked and boarded.
Today we name and honor the missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people whose lives have been stolen and whose disappearances have been met with indifference. Today we bear witness alongside our Native kin and yearn for their sovereignty.
