Purse Bingo may be behind us, but the momentum it created is still very much alive.

I saw ABWA - La Capitale’s shout out to Redemption - Process Development and Bookkeeping, LLC today, their BINGO BFF Sponsor and a woman-owned bookkeeping and virtual CFO firm that showed up in a big way for this year’s fundraiser. It got me thinking about how much of what made Purse Bingo special was not just the event itself, but everything it set in motion. The relationships built, the businesses spotlighted, the way women kept finding new ways to support each other long after the bingo cards were put away.

Tonight, at a St. George Chamber event, I had the chance to talk to the founder of Redemption in person. What started at purse bingo turned into a genuine conversation and inspired ideas, the kind that reminds you why showing up in these spaces matters. You never know which room, which event, or which conversation will end up being the bridge to something bigger.

This is what I love most about the community we are building here. Women choosing to make space for one another, not because they have to, but because they understand what is possible when we do. Grateful for ABWA La Capitale for creating spaces where these connections can happen, and grateful for every woman in business who shows up ready to build something meaningful, together.

People by Design was featured as this week's Ambassador Spotlight by the St. George Chamber of Commerce.

Being part of the Chamber's Ambassador program has deepened our connection to the St. George business community and reflects the same belief at the heart of everything we do: real growth happens through real relationships.

Melissa Montgomery, founder of People by Design, has valued the opportunity to connect with fellow ambassadors and Chamber leadership, including Travis Thornton and Monica Rouse, while continuing to bring executive coaching, leadership development, and team building to organizations throughout the region.

If your business is part of the St. George community, we encourage you to get involved with the Chamber. Connections like this are how communities and businesses grow stronger together.

Every organization on this page reached the same conclusion: HR professionals in this region getting better at their work is worth investing in.

A conference like this happens because people decide it should and then do a lot of quiet work to make it real.

People by Design is a gold sponsor of The HR Storybook, September 22 and 23 at the Crowne Plaza. I am grateful the chapter made room for a first-year practice on a page like this one.

Thank you, GBR Society for Human Resource Management, for building something this community shows up for.

People by Design was honored to be part of House of Colour East Baton Rouge's grand opening celebration this weekend.

Jaime and her team opened the doors to a beautiful new studio for color analysis and personal styling, and it was wonderful to see so many Baton Rouge small businesses come together to celebrate alongside her. People by Design was proud to contribute to the grand prize giveaway, joining a lineup of incredible local businesses and women entrepreneurs who showed up in support.

This is exactly the kind of community I love being part of, women in business lifting each other up, celebrating new beginnings, and building something meaningful together. Congratulations, Jaime, on this next chapter.

People by Design was honored to sponsor ABWA - La Capitale's Annual Purse Bingo Fundraiser this year, and what a beautiful day it was.

Over 100 businesswomen from across the Baton Rouge region came together to celebrate, connect, and support one another, and I am so grateful to have been part of it. Congratulations to our winner, who took home a leadership coaching or workshop package paired with a designer purse and a set of pearls. I cannot wait to work with you and help you take the next step toward something great.

This is exactly the kind of work I love most, creating space for women to invest in themselves and in each other. If you are a woman in business who is ready to grow, lead with more confidence, or simply take the next step in your journey, I would love to connect.

A room full of women, a day full of connection. Grateful to have celebrated ABWA La Capitale's Purse Bingo Fundraiser alongside so many incredible business women. Every relationship in that room matters, and I cannot wait to see where these connections lead.

For too long, I blamed myself when my values clashed with my organization's demands. What I learned? This points to a systemic fracture, not a personal flaw. Naming that changes everything.

Over 20 years in human resources, I watched this exact tension break good people over and over again. We tell leaders to put people first and lead with empathy.

Then we hand them a scorecard that rewards cutting costs and pushing output to the absolute limit.

I remember reading about a healthcare manager working through a post-merger transition where the new metrics demanded higher productivity immediately. Her eyes saw something completely different when she walked the floor.

She saw exhausted nurses bleeding from compassion fatigue and struggling to keep up.

She tried to hit the numbers anyway because the system required it. Her top performer eventually quit from severe burnout, and safety errors spiked across the board.

The crushing part was knowing she felt like she failed her team. She experienced severe ethical dissonance.

-> This happens when the human heart is forced to operate inside a machine designed purely for extraction.

We cannot fix a structural design flaw with a better personal attitude or more leadership training. Gallup research actually shows that employee burnout is primarily driven by systemic issues like unmanageable workloads and unreasonable time pressure rather than individual weakness.

When we demand leaders care for people while strictly rewarding them for metrics, we guarantee a break. Healing starts when we finally stop blaming ourselves for the fracture.

We have to design spaces where human dignity and business outcomes work together in an unhurried way. Every single person is an essential piece of the puzzle.

Have you ever felt forced to choose between hitting the target and caring for the human in front of you?
Like and comment below if you have ever carried the weight of a broken system.

There is something about a room full of women that stays with you long after the day is over.

Saturday’s ABWA - La Capitale Purse Bingo Fundraiser was full of laughter, beautiful donations, and the kind of connection that reminds you why community matters. I am still thinking about the friends who showed up for me, the women I got to sit with and cheer alongside, and the incredible generosity of every business and individual who donated a gift, a service, or a piece of their heart to make this event possible.

To the volunteers who worked behind the scenes, to the sponsors who said yes without hesitation, and to every woman in that room who came ready to celebrate and support one another, thank you. This work, building relationships, creating opportunities for women to grow, and celebrating each other’s journeys, is exactly why I do what I do.

The purse bingo boards and raffle tickets will get put away, but the memories and the connections we made will not. Grateful does not feel like a big enough word, but it is the one that keeps coming to mind.

Here’s to the women who lift each other up, and to many more days like this one.
