County of Sonoma:
It is with great sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Jessica Avila, a Sonoma County Juvenile Correctional Counselor. At just 31, Jessica was a devoted single mom and the first in her family to graduate from college. She leaves behind her daughter, sister, mother, colleagues and many friends.
Jessica joined the Juvenile Division of the County of Sonoma Probation Department, and though her time was short, she made an indelible impact. Her radiant smile, unwavering dedication and infectious enthusiasm for life, family and work touched all who had the privilege of knowing her.
“There is no way to express the deep loss we are feeling after learning of the tragic and sudden death of our colleague, Jessica Avila,” said Chief Probation Officer, Vanessa Fuchs. “While coping with our own loss, we can’t help but feeling tremendous sorrow for her family, friends and especially her young daughter. Jessica was just beginning her career, and all of us in the Probation Department know too well what that feeling of excitement, honor and joy is, to be able to give back to the community as public safety officers. This will be a loss we carry with us forever.”
