Good Saturday morning! Our summer-like pattern is continuing in full swing, with mostly dry conditions once again today and afternoon highs reaching the low 90s. It’s gonna be a hot one! We’ll stay mostly dry through the weekend.

This upcoming week, deeper moisture will push in from the Gulf. The big question is how much and how long it sticks around. For now, this week mainly features isolated to possibly scattered showers off and on.

An overall dry weekend is expected with highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s. On Sunday, a slight chance of rain will return but coverage should be low. Monday currently is looking to be the best day for a chance of storms at around 50% for most of the region. After this, the pattern is a little more uncertain than normal about how wet or dry it will be due to being close to the edge of a large moisture plume. If the moisture pushes more west, rain chances will be higher, but drier if it is forced more east. Therefore, some changes could potentially be on the horizon during this time frame. We should have a pretty good idea though by Sunday. Otherwise, temperatures will be running pretty close to average for this time of year.

As we approach hurricane season on Monday, a large batch of Saharan dust will be passing through the Eastern Caribbean Sea heading towards the Gulf. This dust greatly inhibits the development of tropical systems and typically gives the sky a rather milky appearance. On top of this, the dust can also cause trouble for allergy sufferers and those with lung conditions such as asthma. Fortunately, the dust typically arrives in batches and lasts not usually more than a few days at most.

Deeper moisture will push in from the Gulf early to mid-next week — right around the same timeframe as the start of hurricane season next Monday, June 1 into middle of next week. Like always, we’ll be watching the tropics 24/7 but this is a good reminder to follow your reliable weather sources and local officials — NOT hype pages.

What we know for sure is that strong wind shear across the Gulf will keep this more so a rainy setup for areas along the Gulf Coast next week. ☔️
