I have been debating for the last few days whether to post about this news article: https://www.thewashingtondailynews.com/news/belhaven-mayor-accused-of-unauthorized-use-of-nonprofits-funds-e2450535.
After much counsel, I concluded that transparency and integrity are more important than silence. When someone in this position is accused of such acts, it is the duty of the alderman and town manager to assure the citizens that these acts do not also affect the budget of the Town of Belhaven.
With that in mind, I call on those in the Town of Belhaven government to be fully transparent and have a forensic accounting of the Town’s Finances. If you want citizens to trust you fully, you will put your pride aside and be completely vulnerable.
Lay all the cards on the table. The citizens of Belhaven deserve to know where their money has gone since Mr. James Richardson “Ricky” Credle has been mayor. Do your duty. That means having an agency outside of Beaufort County (SBI, FBI, etc.) perform an investigation.
