Darrell Urban, is the third generation owner of Midwestern Propane Gas Company. and Martha Urban, opened an office in Belleville, Illinois in 1936 selling butane, a new energy fuel for cooking and heating, to customers from Cairo to Chicago. The business thrived as the Urbans established a reputation for dependability and service. In the early 1950's, the company moved to its present location on South Belt East in Belleville. As the market and technology changed, so did Midwestern Propane Gas Company. In the 1960's, sales of gas grills and gas logs were added. By the mid-1980's, demand for high-quality leisure products grew and the Urbans responded with Hearthside Grill & Fireplace, Ltd. Hearthside is now owned by Mark Urban, Darrell's nephew, and operates from the same location as the propane company.
