Across the country, housing professionals are having increasingly urgent conversations about what it will take to build more homes that people can actually afford. At NAHB's 2026 Legislative Conference, more than 1,100 builders, remodelers, and housing professionals called on Congress to address barriers to housing production, including permitting delays, workforce shortages, and regulations that add to the cost of building.
These are issues that matter at every level of the building industry, from national policy to what happens in our own communities.
I'm proud to be involved with BIAW and Professional Women in Building. Advocacy, workforce development, education, and leadership are all part of strengthening the industry—and ultimately, expanding the opportunity to build the homes our communities need.
Housing affordability is complicated. There isn't one policy or one solution that fixes it. But being part of the conversation, understanding the challenges facing builders, and working toward practical solutions is an important place to start.
