Last week I was on a panel with a group of moms, and someone used the term “Maycember.”

The entire room immediately knew exactly what she meant... 😂

Because somehow May has become December on steroids.

There are school concerts. Field trips. Sports banquets. End-of-year school projects. Summer planning. Teacher gifts. Graduation celebrations.

And in a weird twist of irony... somehow Mother’s Day got squeezed in there too. 😅

If your calendar has looked anything like mine lately, you’re probably counting down the days until summer break.

Which is exactly why June is one of our busiest months at The Orderly Space, as families get organized and prepare their homes for a smoother, more enjoyable summer.

A little preparation now makes summer feel a whole lot easier later.

It’s about time we stop pretending that a pretty pantry = an organized one.

There, I said it!

Because I’ve seen some absolutely gorgeous pantries that were a complete nightmare to maintain!

✔️ The containers matched.
✔️ Things were labeled.
✔️ Everything LOOKED organized.

But hidden behind all of that?
→ Expired food.
→ Duplicate purchases.
→ Five open bags of the same snack.
→ Items getting shoved wherever they could fit.

The problem is that most people start with the products before they address the habits.

The truth is, a pantry doesn’t stay organized because it’s pretty. It stays organized because you can see what you have, find what you need, and put things away without thinking about it! 🙌🏼

The truth is... beautiful homes aren’t enough anymore.

Over the years, we’ve had the opportunity to organize some truly stunning spaces alongside talented Interior Designers and homeowners with incredible vision! And while I love gorgeous cabinetry, stunning pantries, and dreamy closets as much as the next person, I’ve noticed something...

The spaces people love most aren’t necessarily the ones that look the best. They’re the ones that WORK the best.

And that’s exactly why we at The Orderly Space love collaborating with Interior Designers! We’re often solving different parts of the same problem - while a designer may be thinking about cabinetry, finishes, and layout, we’re thinking about how groceries will get unloaded, where backpacks land after school, and what systems will be easy to maintain on your busiest days.

Designers create beautiful spaces, and Professional Organizers help those spaces function for the people who live there. Because beautiful design gets you excited to come home, but it’s intentional organization that helps you enjoy living there. 🩵

Today I’m feeling especially grateful for the place we call home. ❤️

Home is where we gather around the table, welcome loved ones through the front door, celebrate milestones, and create memories we’ll carry for years to come.

And while organization can’t create those moments, it can help make space for them.

These before & afters are a glimpse into what our team accomplished last week, but what you don’t see is the peace of mind and relief that came with each transformation! We at The Orderly Space are so grateful for the opportunity to help our clients create homes that give them the ability to slow down and spend time with the people they love.

Thinking of and honoring those who served and sacrificed this Memorial Day, and hoping today brings time for reflection, connection, and moments with the people you love. 🇺🇸

Professional Organizers might hate me for saying this, but… 👀

You do NOT have to decide whether to keep or donate everything immediately!

Now, this isn’t typically our go-to strategy at The Orderly Space because we usually try to help clients make intentional decisions in the moment. BUT for certain personalities (especially kids who are very “out of sight, out of mind”), this concept can be such a helpful middle ground!

Here’s how the “Decide Later Box” works:
→ Grab any cardboard box or bin you already have
→ While decluttering, put anything you’re unsure about inside
→ Store it away somewhere out of sight for a while
→ If nobody asks for it, uses it, or even remembers it exists… that’s usually your answer! 😅

Consider this your reminder that decluttering doesn’t always have to be all-or-nothing. Sometimes creating a little space between the item and the decision is what can help you finally let go without the emotions attached to it.
