Hi Bug Man Family! A few updates from your hometown pest control team:

1. We’re stoked to once again be sponsoring and judging the BESTEST, ROOTIN’EST TOOTIN’EST EVENT OF THE YEAR— The Apple Butter Festival’s Hog Calling Contest!🐷🐽We hope to see everyone this Sunday at 2pm in the Berkeley Springs State Park!

Will our reining champions take home the coveted title of best hog caller again? Think you have what it takes to make the pigs come running? Come out for fun AND prizes!

2. You might’ve noticed that we’ve been a little quiet lately! Not only have we been working to produce systems and procedures to expand our service offerings (we’re now offering home services like insulation replacement, crawl space encapsulation, and more!), but we’ve also been working to ensure that our existing pest control customers continue receiving the top-notch service we’re known for.

Some of you may have noticed the extra (now spare) trucks in our back lot, but fear not! We’ve been upgrading our fleet over the past few months with the goals of i) having more reliable fleet operations (there’s nothing worse than an urgent maintenance issue springing up in the middle of a busy day) and ii) having the best equipment possible to provide our customers with the highest quality work possible!

Not only do our newer vehicles have better gas mileage (helping us continue to keep costs lower for our customers!), but they also have better storage, new-and-improved custom spray rigs, AND WiFi hotspots (which allows our technicians to communicate with our office even in the most remote areas of the county)!

Because we believe in the importance of consistency, we’ve decided not to sell our old vehicles, but instead to keep them parked as spare trucks in the event that we have a maintenance malfunction, need a spare part, etc. We’ve heard of fears that we’re shrinking our operations, so we just wanted to let everyone know that that’s not the case! We continue to grow, offer more services to meet our customers’ needs, and remain committed to providing the 5-star servicing you all know and love. The vehicles in our back lot aren’t a sign of us slowing down, but are actually the result of us getting bigger!

3) You’ll also notice that we won’t be in the Apple Butter Parade this year. We thought long and hard about whether or not to join the parade lineup once again, and ultimately decided against it for this year. We weren’t sure if our new trucks would be decal’ed and delivered in time, and we realized that we haven’t had the opportunity to watch the parade and enjoy that special piece of Apple Butter Magic in years. Given that the whole family will be together this weekend, we decided to just enjoy the time with each other and to enjoy the festival magic that we’ve worked so hard to contribute to over the past 6 years.

We appreciate everyone’s continued support, and just wanted to give you all an update on how things are going! You may see a little less of us at Apple Butter this year, but we aren’t going anywhere!

🍎 APPLE BUTTER WEEKEND REMINDER! 🐷

We’re excited for another Apple Butter Weekend and hope everyone has a great time! ❤️

We just ask that everyone please DO NOT use The Bug Man’s parking lot for parking or event overflow throughout the weekend. We will still be fully operational and running our regular stops, so our vehicles need to be able to get in and out of the lot.

🚨 Any vehicles parked in our lot without permission may be towed at the owner’s expense. We hate to have to do it, but we need to keep our business accessible and our technicians on the road!

And while you’re enjoying the weekend, come see us Sunday at 2:00 PM in the park for the HOG CALLING CONTEST! 🐷📣 We’ll see you there!

🪲🍂 STINK BUG SEASON IS HERE! 🍂🪲

As we move through the end of September and into October, it’s completely normal to see a noticeable increase in stink bug activity around your home. As temperatures begin to drop, stink bugs start looking for warm, protected places to shelter for the winter — and unfortunately, your home can look like the perfect spot!

So why are you still seeing them after a treatment? 👀

Our products are effective against stink bugs, but stink bugs can take more time to expire after coming into contact with the treatment compared to some other pests. You may continue to notice activity for a period of time as they come into contact with treated areas.

Seeing stink bugs does not necessarily mean your treatment isn’t working! 🍂

This time of year, our goal is to create a treated barrier around your home to help reduce the number of stink bugs attempting to enter and give you protection throughout the season.

As many of you know, running a small business isn't an easy endeavor. There are long days, constant sacrifices (often to ensure customer satisfaction), and, even though we'd like to think we can plan for the worst, unexpected setbacks. Piled together, there are definitely moments when we wonder whether all the time and effort we put in are really making a difference.

The Bug Man was born nearly 7 years ago (can you believe how long it has been!) from a desire to do things differently. Jeff was disappointed with how his prior company treated its customers, and his son was equally disappointed with how that company treated its employees, including his dad.

It takes an ever-increasing amount of effort to maintain our high standard of service, both in the quality of our treatment applications and in the way we treat our customers, as we've continued to grow, but looking back on it all, we wouldn't have it any other way.

When we get a message from a happy customer, see familiar faces around town (who all affectionately shout "BUG MAN!" when they see Jeff or see us in the Apple Butter Parade), or hear that someone recommended us to a friend because of how much they love our service, we are reminded exactly why we do what we do.

Despite the long hours, the sacrifices, and the seemingly constant increase in costs that small businesses face just to keep their daily operations moving, you all are what makes this work worth it.

Just like the debates Dad and I have over whether we should make small adjustments to how we do things, we also debate whether the "Best of the Best" title is something worth vying for. Dad would rather focus on making his customers happy, but I think the entire team at The Bug Man deserves to be recognized as the "Best of the Best."

Our technician team rotates working weekends throughout the year in an effort to accommodate customers who simply can't make service during the week work. Our service team takes phone calls after hours and on weekends to make sure no customer need goes unanswered. And I can confidently say that every member of our team spends an enormous amount of time thinking (albeit, admittedly sometimes excessively) about how they can improve and be the best version of themselves, both personally and professionally.

I've watched them all overcome challenges at home and in the workplace, and no matter what happens, they continue to show up and show out, for our customers and for each other.

Running a small business is hard. There is no doubt about it. But there is something equally special about the joy that comes from helping the folks in our community. Whether it's a full-blown infestation or just a few relentless bugs that are adamant about hiding in your home, we hope that we have—and will continue to be—your one-stop shop for all things pest control.
