Mules are a cross between a female horse and a male donkey. They can be any size-from miniature to large draft mules like you see with Royal Carriages.
Pound for Pound mules are stronger than horses. Able to easily pull more than their weight for dozens of miles per day. At Royal Carriages, our mules only work 6-7 hours per day. All of our carriages are light and can be hand-parked by one human. Making 8 passengers on a carriage light work for our mules.
The first mule breeder in the United States was George Washington. American horses had many dates with a Royal donkey from Spain!
Many think mules are stubborn. While they can be, they are smart! If horses will follow anyone. Mules would like to see your resume and call your reference before following anyone.
Mules live longer than horses! Mules can live into their late 40’s or early 50’s. Mules are retired at Royal Carriages at the age of 20, if not sooner. From there they can never work commercially. Many of our retired mules become lawn gnomes. Munching on grass and watching over their new home.
