There’s a reason so many of us in Berwick are supporting Mathew Roy for the MSAD60 School Board — and it has nothing to do with politics, and everything to do with priorities.
Mathew believes in something simple, but too often forgotten: students come first.
Every single student deserves to be treated equally, supported fully, and educated in a safe environment where learning is the priority — not distractions, not agendas, not excuses.
He understands that safety and education are the foundation, and when those two things are strong, everything else follows.
Mathew also brings something our district desperately needs right now — a background in both construction and finance that no one else on the board offers.
He understands how projects are built, how money is spent, and how to manage both responsibly. That real-world experience matters when decisions involve large budgets, infrastructure, and long-term planning.
Alongside that, he brings true fiscal responsibility.
That means balanced budgets, accountability for every dollar spent, and full transparency with taxpayers.
Because right now, the priorities feel backwards.
Teachers are reaching into their own pockets. Classrooms are under-supported. Academic scores are struggling.
Yet somehow, a $40,000 superintendent raise was approved — while the district continues to fall behind.
That $40,000 could fund classroom resources.
That $40,000 could support students directly.
That $40,000 is someone’s entire salary.
Mathew believes that money should be allocated where it actually matters — in the classrooms, for the students, and to support the teachers doing the work every day.
He has said clearly:
If we want better outcomes, we need to invest in the right places.
And that includes supporting our teachers properly — giving them the budgets they need to succeed, not expecting them to do more with less while leadership rewards itself.
Just as important, Mathew believes in positive, accountable leadership.
Leadership that listens. Leadership that answers questions. Leadership that is willing to make changes when something isn’t working.
Because doing the same thing over and over — while results continue to decline — is not leadership.
That’s where the contrast becomes clear.
Peg Wheeler has been on and off the board for 20 years. During that time, we’ve seen consistent decline in performance, continued spending concerns, and resistance to change.
She continues to defend a reading program that has not delivered results.
She has pushed to avoid discussions about failures, costs, and even the well-documented financial loss tied to past decisions — including over half a million dollars tied to a consultant situation many in the community still have questions about.
When concerns are raised, they are often dismissed.
When taxpayers ask questions, they’re met with condescension instead of answers.
That’s not the kind of representation this community deserves.
There are also growing concerns about decisions that appear to benefit personal interests — including support for large-scale spending projects that directly impact her own proximity — while taxpayers are left footing the bill.
That’s not putting the district first.
That’s not putting students first.
Mathew Roy is offering something different.
✔ Students First
✔ Teachers Supported
✔ Taxpayers Respected
✔ Transparency and Accountability
✔ Real-world experience in construction and finance
✔ Willingness to ask hard questions and make real changes
He believes MSAD60 can be better — and more importantly, he’s willing to do the work to get us there.
Berwick deserves leadership that represents the people — not protects the status quo.
That’s why we’re supporting Mathew Roy.
