Professional advice, but make it personal:

Before I became a comms queen, I was a TV news personality. šŸ“ŗšŸŽ¤ At my core, I will always be a journalist. If you had told this hungry up-and-coming reporter that I would spend just a few years in the industry, I wouldn’t have believed you. But that was before them.

I loved news - but I love my family so much more. I can’t stress this advice enough for young people who are considering their career path: choose the gig that works for your family. And even if you aren’t there yet, consider the family you hope to have one day.

I chose to reserve my evenings, weekends and holidays for my kids. I chose a flexible schedule that allows me to catch a school concert, or volunteer at a field day. I chose stability rather than two-year contracts. I chose being the first and last person they see every single day. I haven’t questioned those choices once.

We used to joke about people ā€œselling outā€ when they left TV news for PR. I may have sold out, but I think I got a pretty sweet deal.ā¤ļø

It was such a pleasure presenting with my colleague Denise Wells at the Tioga Business Expo today on the tools you need to be a ā€˜connected business’. We had great conversations about best practices for digital marketing, social networking platforms, and handling an online crisis.

I made some fantastic new connections, and not only shared my expertise, but learned a great deal myself. Don’t sleep on the importance of your local business networking events. Relationships, relationships, relationships.šŸ™Œ

šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø Proud wife post:

Today, they call him Sergeant Gallagher, but before he became a police officer, my husband Tommy was an Army Ranger. He has served three tours of combat: two in Iraq, one in Afghanistan.

Tommy, alongside about a dozen very deserving local vets, was honored in a recent Veterans Day ceremony at our children’s elementary school. He’s a humble hero who doesn’t like attention, so this took some convincing, but he enjoyed meeting the kids as much as they enjoyed meeting him.

I’m so very proud of him. This weekend, may every Veteran feel as celebrated as mine does. We are forever in their debt.

Today, my daughter Scarlett had her first-ever day of ā€˜school’ - just across the campus from my office.

On-site childcare was a HUGE perk when I decided to accept the position at SUNY Broome. We (and many other students and employees of the college) are very fortunate to have this convenient resource available to us.

So many women aren’t as lucky. So many communities are childcare deserts. We must create more options for working parents. We need to keep experienced, talented, brilliant women in the workforce. Let’s give them every reason to stay.

Apologies to those of you that follow my page. I decided to keep my professional page up, and post an occasional update about what I'm up to, but I haven't posted in months!

This little lady keeps my days quite busy. Kennedy is six months old now. She's now sitting on her own, very close to crawling and becoming more lively every day. I'm just head over heels in love with her, and I'm so appreciative of every day I get to spend at home, just focusing on being her mom. I'm also loving having some extra time with my stepson Jake. He's 7 years old, and truly the best big brother ever.

I'm so thankful for all your well wishes and those of you who have touched base with me since I signed off the air. I sometimes miss the news, but being a mom is by far the best job I've had. I will definitely try my best to keep you all updated on my family and any future career plans, going forward!

I have a bittersweet announcement to make: I've decided not to return to television news following my maternity leave.

This choice was a difficult one, because I love the news, and being a voice for my community. Over the past two years, I've covered gripping murder trials gavel to gavel, interviewed presidential candidates, and broke the news of the capture of an inmate who escaped from a maximum security prison. I question whether any other job could ever be so riveting and rewarding.

But there is something I love (much) more than
news -- and that is my family. I'm thrilled to spend a little more time at home with my daughter, Kennedy, while I contemplate my next career move, and I'm thankful that her wonderful father is so supportive of me. Though I'm sad to leave Fox 40, I'm truly confident that this is the right decision for my family in the long term.

To my outstanding colleagues, past and present: as journalists, continue to do more than your due diligence. Give a voice to the voiceless. Always ask the tough questions. Don't just seek the truth. Demand it.

And finally, this is the part where I say thank you to my fantastic viewers in the Twin Tiers. From WBNG to Fox, you have welcomed me into your community and your living rooms. It is you that helped me make New York State my home. Thank you for letting me tell your stories. Now, it's time for me to write my own.
