Coinsurance is how you and your health plan share the cost of care after you’ve met your deductible. Instead of paying the full bill, you’re responsible for an agreed-upon percentage - while your plan covers the rest, up to your out-of-pocket maximum. (Make sure to check your plan documents.) That shared structure keeps your costs predictable even for expensive treatments, since once you hit that maximum, your plan takes over the remaining balance completely for the rest of the year.
