For years, video games have had a huge impact on many people. But a common complaint and downside of controllers is they aren’t built to last. On average every 6 months the standard thumb-sticks start to fail, leading to a phenomena of “Joystick Drift”. Which is where the controller gets stuck permanently pushing one direction. Rather than replacing the joysticks with latest generation joysticks that are built to last, they use the same old sticks so people will buy more controllers when they inevitably fail.

I’m a fan of permanent fixes, where possible. This is where TMR(Tunnel MagnetoResistance) joysticks come into play. Rather than the traditional joysticks which rely on metal scraping against each other, TMR joysticks have very little physical contact since they utilize magnets, they no longer need to scratch against each other to read properly. Instead, they have plastic and metal to keep the terminals separate. This prolongs the time between replacements by a large amount, potentially a permanent fix.

I decided to give them a try and removed the old joysticks, which the left one had a 100% stick drift, pulling down the stick to the maximum level. After replacing the joysticks with TMR joysticks, stick drift is no longer an issue. And I’ve also noticed faster responsiveness, and less input-lag and less input-loss as well. Helping with snappy aiming in competitive online games.

One of the best parts, is your device maintains its features that make it unique. It works the same as if it were using disposable batteries, but allows you to keep it charged up and maintain maximum brightness.

General pricing for the install plus parts: $20-$25!

A downside of disposable batteries is they lose their power over time.
But with integrated rechargeable batteries, you can charge it and keep it as bright as fresh batteries after every full charge. One full charge lasts around the same time as fresh disposable batteries(roughly 2 hours+ before it starts reducing brightness, and then can be recharged to renew its brightness).

Another downside of disposable batteries, or even rechargable batteries, is that you have to remove them and replace them with new ones. But with our battery installs, you don’t need to remove them, simply plug in the USB-C charging cord into any of your fast or slow chargers and you’re golden.

Notes about the project:
*This is a permanent conversion, so we permanently remove the disposable battery contact pads to make room for the new battery and its charging port.
*Charging cord and charging brick are not included.
*The component placement and charging port location are dependent on how much room there is to install it, and the direction the battery is facing.
*The disposable headlamp is not provided, since we make modifications to the customer’s currently owned headlamp.
*This conversion maintains current limitations of the device(such as max brightness, although the battery is high performance, so it ‘may’ make it brighter than usual.)
