Meeting & Management Essentials About Jana Kemp

Jana was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the “City of Brotherly Love” and a cradle of American freedom.

Meeting & Management Essentials specializes in helping organizations of all sizes to improve the productivity, morale and profitability of their day-to-day business meetings. When she was a little girl, Jana and her family moved westward to central Indiana, into the heart of American farming country. Later, they migrated again, this time to the upper Midwest - to Minnesota, the home of Paul Bunyan

, wild rice, and that quintessential icon of the American airwaves, a Prairie Home Companion. Always active and independent, Jana enjoyed a wide range of activities during her school years. She lettered in marching band and fencing, and served in 4-H. At age 18 she moved away from home, this time south to a small town in Illinois, to attend college. Jana then moved westward to Idaho in 1994. Jana has been a resident of Boise and Garden City ever since. From an early age, Jana displayed the characteristics of a genuine leader: the ability to “play with the boys” in sports during the days before Title Nine and girls’ teams; a hard work ethic that got her to the top of her classes and saw her through college in three-and-a half years, an ethic of frugality, and a true Yankee entrepreneurial spirit. In 1993, Jana founded Meeting & Management Essentials and began working with organizations to enhance their meeting productivity. She is the author of seven books, many of which have been translated in to multiple languages. Jana’s patriotic spirit came to the fore in 2004 when she successfully ran for the Idaho House of Representatives. After serving one term, she was defeated by her Democratic rival and returned to her business, write her books, and marry Dan Allers in 2007. In 2010 she ran again for office, this time for Governor of the state of Idaho. Jana enjoys living in the Treasure Valley of Idaho. Married to Dan Allers, she has one stepdaughter and enjoys the rollercoaster of life with them. Jana also enjoys meaningful conversations, good books and movies, and time with family and friends.

I've been quoted in a Nesting article: If you don’t want to host an official nesting party or can’t attend one, simply being available to offer emotional support in any capacity is truly invaluable. “Nesting can happen in person, via an hour-long phone call, or via a card sent to a friend for no reason,” reminds Jana Kemp. “Settling into a comfortable spot to make a call or pen a note can calm your soul and create joy for your recipient,” continues Jana.

Saying "no" is in print again! "5 Ways to get Better at saying no" was in TIME magazine in the last few months. And..."Just Say No" was in Town and Country magazine. On a related note, a recent magazine ad says "Quit waffling." which is discussed in my book NO - How One Simple Word Can Transform Your Life. Saying "no" may be an old concept, however, it is a timeless skill!

NO is back in discussion. Why? because setting reasonable boundaries is always healthy, productive, and useful. A recent newspaper article titled "Saying no can be empowering. Here's how." by Terri Schlichenmeyer proves my point. Where have you said "No" or "no, thanks for thinking of me" recently?

We've been forced into hiatus over the last two years.
If you could choose your own hiatus, what would it be?
Here's more:

"Hiatus" means to take or create "a pause or gap in a sequence, series, or process." The worldwide effects of COVID have forced hiatus experiences in all walks of life, all career areas, and even areas of innovation and creativity.

Pacing ourselves as the year winds down is important for workplace and life-at-home wellbeing too. Time to enjoy each other and gatherings is here. Whether at work, or at home, slow down long enough to really see the people around you, to enjoy a conversation, a board game, a meal together, or a night out. Reconnecting moments feed our own souls and our collective humanity. How's your pacing? What would you change?

"'No' is my favorite word." says Ariana DeBose, Steven Spielberg's pick for Anita in the current West Side Story movie. She actually told Spielberg she wouldn't read/audition when he wanted her to (one day later) because she wanted enough time to prepare. She said "no" and still got the part! Go Ariana!
