Walmart has passed Amazon as the top online food retailer, according to a survey of 1,000 adults conducted this month by TABS Analytics, a company that studies the consumer products industry. Walmart accounts for about 30% of online grocery transactions, similar to its level last year, but Amazon’s share has fallen to about 27% from about 33% in 2019.

The retailer’s 30% piece of the online grocery segment puts it ahead of Amazon, which saw its share slip to 27%, according to a survey by TABS Analytics.

Despite online sales growing slower in July than in June, ecommerce sales are still up 55% year over year for the first seven months of the year, resulting in $434.5 billion in online spending, according to Adobe. And Adobe expects 2020 online sales to surpass the total online sales in 2019 by Oct. 5, 2020, “well before holidays season sales begin to ramp up,”

Amazon has expanded product reviews by allowing shoppers to leave a star rating without a written review. The company has been testing the change since September, and committed to it last week by changing the wording on the website to "ratings." The overall star rating now includes feedback from customers who simply rated the product as well as the traditional reviews with text, images, or video.
