We treat today's problems like they have technical fixes, but most of them don't. Societal issues like polarization, climate change, and complex organizational challenges require instead what Heifetz calls adaptive leadership.

Through adaptive leadership, problems are owned by the people at large. Dialogue is a tool we can use to make this happen: It's how groups surface blind spots, uncover obstacles, and stay in hard conversations without reverting to conflict avoidance or defaulting to debate.
