I wanted to take a moment to share the answer to a question asked during a networking event over the weekend.

“What is Etiquette and Protocol for Generational Leaders working on right now?”

I’m glad this question was asked! 😊

We’re growing, evolving, and building on the foundation we started with.

When EPGLeaders first launched, I created our website myself. I was ready to get started, and sometimes, you simply have to start where you are with what you have. And that’s okay.

Now, we’re excited to be working with a website designer to bring our new website to life!

We’re also currently partnering with institutions, organizations, and companies throughout Mississippi to provide meaningful training in etiquette, protocol, leadership, and professional presence.

We’re proud of the work we’re putting into the communities we serve, and we hope those communities are proud of the work we’re doing, too.

We’re growing. We’re evolving. And we’re just getting started! ✨

💭 JUST A THOUGHT…

Does Your Attire Match Your Ambition?

The recent conversations surrounding college dress codes have me thinking…

College is not just a place where you earn a degree. It is also a place where you learn how to navigate different environments.

Your classroom may be casual.
Your internship may be business casual.
Your interview may require a suit.
A networking event may call for professional attire.
A formal ceremony may require something entirely different.

Etiquette teaches us that appropriate dress is not about losing your individuality. It is about understanding the occasion, the environment, and the message your appearance communicates.

You don't have to dress professionally every day to be professional.

But you should know when professionalism requires you to elevate your appearance.

So, are we teaching college students simply WHAT to wear, or are we teaching them HOW TO READ THE ROOM?

Because knowing how to dress for the occasion is more than fashion.

It's social intelligence.
It's professional readiness.
It's knowing when to show up, and how to show up.

Professional Habits Start on Day One

College classrooms are different from high school classrooms. You’re entering an environment where your behavior, communication, preparation, and professionalism can shape how professors and classmates experience you.

📚 What College Students Should Know:

📅 1. Know Your Class Schedule
Know where your classes are located, when they meet, and how long it takes to get there. Don’t wait until the first day to figure it out.

⏰ 2. Arrive on Time
Give yourself enough time to find your classroom, settle in, and prepare before class begins.

📖 3. Come Prepared
Bring what you need—books, laptop, notebook, pens, assignments, and anything else your professor requires.

🙋🏿 4. Participate Respectfully
Ask questions, contribute to discussions, and listen when others are speaking. Participation isn’t just talking—it’s engaging.

📱 5. Manage Your Technology
Silence your phone and use laptops or tablets for academic purposes. Avoid texting, scrolling, or having side conversations during class.

👩🏽‍🏫 6. Respect Your Professor
Address your professor appropriately, follow classroom policies, and remember that professionalism matters.

🗣️ 7. Communicate Professionally
Whether you’re speaking in person or sending an email, communicate with courtesy, clarity, and respect.

When someone is doing work in or around your home, offer them something to drink. A bottle of water, a glass of tea, or a cup of coffee is a simple gesture that reflects kindness, hospitality, and respect.

It's not about obligation, it's about consideration. Small acts of courtesy still matter.

Just a Thought...

Sometimes, the greatest gift isn't someone who agrees with you, it's someone who sees something in you that you haven't yet recognized in yourself.

We're often so busy serving, building, and focusing on what's in front of us that we miss the fullness of our own potential.

Pay attention to the people who speak life into your purpose, who mention your name in rooms you've never entered, and who advocate for you when you're not present. Those are the people who see your gifts, your value, and your future.

And when those words come back to you through someone else, take a moment to receive them. It's a reminder that your impact is reaching farther than you know.

Choose your circle wisely. They're not just walking with you, they're helping open doors you haven't reached yet.
