Spent this morning untangling three months of transactions for a contractor who said, and I quote, “It’s bad, I’m sorry.”
It wasn’t bad, it was normal.
Receipts in the truck, transfers between accounts, a few mystery charges.
I’ve seen it all and most of it has a simple fix. By the end of the month he’ll know exactly where his money went, probably for the first time in years.
That moment never gets old.

What a Tuesday looks like when you own three businesses:

This morning I was on a phone with a contractor lining up jobs for Big Moose by 7:00 am. By 9:00 I was at my desk reviewing a client’s QuickBooks. The rest of the day? I answered about 400 texts, calls, and emails, took the kids to doctor appointments, and put a listing under contract.

I’m not saying this for sympathy. I genuinely love what I do.

But here’s what I want you to hear: I built Dalton Professional Services specifically because I understand what it’s like to wear every hat in your business. The owner hat. The bookkeeper hat. The marketing hat. The estimator hat. The HR hat.

You shouldn’t have to wear all of them forever.

The back office ones? That’s my lane. And I’m really good at it.

Having four kids will teach you a lot about systems.

If I don’t have systems, nothing works. Dinner doesn’t happen, homework doesn’t get done, the Tuesday morning that was supposed to be simple turns into complete chaos.

Running a business is the same way.

When your books are current, your invoices are tracked, and your reports are ready, you’re not scrambling. You’re making decisions from a place of clarity instead of controlled panic.

I built the systems in my business because I had to.
And now I build them for my clients because I know how much it changes things when they’re in place.

What system in your business would make the biggest difference right now?
(Bidding, job costing, invoicing, weekly bookkeeping, following up on unpaid work, responding to calls/emails, etc.)

Real question for the business owners out there:
When was the last time you actually looked at a profit and loss report for your business? 🧐

A.) This month 😌
B.) Sometime this year 🙂
C.) I think my CPA has one somewhere 😬
D.) …what’s a P&L? 🤨

No judgment. I’m asking because the answer usually tells me exactly what kind of help someone needs.

And honestly? Most people land somewhere between C and D (which is totally fixable)

Stop paying your CPA to do data entry 🛑

I see this happen all the time:
A business owner walks into their CPA’s office in April with a shoebox full of receipts, three bank statements, and a QuickBooks that hasn’t been opened since last spring.

Now the CPA’s burning through billable hours just getting the books in shape before they can even touch the actual tax work.

That’s expensive. And it’s 100% avoidable.

Here’s how it’s supposed to work: I handle the categorizing, reconciling, and organizing all year long. Your CPA handles the filing and the strategy. Right tool for the right job🔧 And it almost always costs less overall.

Some holidays you feel more than others.

My uncle served in the National Guard. He came home, but not without cost. He lost friends. Real ones. And he’s carried that ever since.

So today I’m not posting a sale or a tip. I’m just saying thank you, to every person who served, and to every family that’s been holding someone together who came back different.

If you know one of those families, you already understand. If you don’t, just take a minute today to remember that freedom has a face. A lot of them.

Go to your browser right now, open a new tab and Google your business name 👀

What comes up? Is your phone number right? Are your hours current? Do you have reviews? Any photos?

I ask because I’ve been in business long enough to know that the first thing a buyer, or any potential client, does is Google you. And what they find in those first ten seconds either builds trust or kills the call 📲

I set up and optimize Google Business Profiles for my clients because it’s one of the simplest, highest-return things a local business can do. Most people either don’t have one at all, or haven’t touched it in years.
