Even though it doesn’t feel like it, summer is upon us and the birds are back. And birds LOVE dryer vents.

90% of the time when I repair a dryer, it’s because of lack of airflow. If there’s one thing you can do for simple home maintenance, it’s checking and cleaning your dryer vent and making sure birds can’t get into it.

Check your vents and have them professionally cleaned if needed. I usually don’t clean vents unless it’s related to an actual dryer failure. I’m getting too old to be climbing on roofs anyway — nobody wants to see this old man roll off a roof.

Also, clean your lint screen the right way. Don’t just wipe it off. Take it to the sink and actually scrub it with soap and water. Over time it builds up a film that restricts airflow, wastes electricity, and causes extra wear and tear on your dryer.

I don’t know why I’m giving away these tips because it probably costs me a few repair calls down the road… but I’d rather your dryer work great and stay safe.

I came across a situation this morning that was very disturbing. An individual claiming to be an appliance repair company went to a customer's house came up with that diagnosis of a bad freezer door seal charged the customer $300 and he never saw him again. I know I can't be everywhere and with some health issues that I'm battling I'm slowing down a little bit and people will need to find other means there are some really good honest companies out there so do your homework before having anybody coming to your house. And if they require full payment up front (which they shouldn't) use a credit card or some way to get your money back in case it is fraud. Protect yourself. This particular customer has or will be making a police report and this isn't only for my industry that should be caution for all industries.

Good Thursday everybody. Unfortunately due to ever increasing call load in broken arrow.
I am strictly just broken arrow and no longer go to coweta or surrounding communities. Forest ridge is about as far as I can go east, Indian springs is as far as I can go south sunset hills 41st and Lynn area is as far north and Garnett is as far west. And that is broken arrow Garnett you good sorry for any inconvenience from my previous customers did there's just too much work and not enough me. Considering training new hires soon.

Not that a lot of my customers are probably on Facebook and I don't blame you. But I was gone all last week and some of my automatic reply messages did not go through. So just apologizing I wasn't doing any avoidance I was dealing with technical difficulties. I am back this week I am going to be a little behind on service usually takes me a couple of weeks to get caught up

Spring break is wrapping up, and with the arrival of spring, birds are actively looking for places to build their nests. Unfortunately, dryer vents—especially those along rooflines or on the sides of homes—are a favorite spot.

If you’ve had issues in the past, now is the ideal time to take preventative action. Many birds will return to the same location year after year, so addressing the problem early can save you trouble later.

I typically leave vent cleanouts to the professionals, as climbing on roofs isn’t something I recommend unless absolutely necessary. However, it’s important to stay aware of the signs. If your dryer is taking longer than usual, the issue may not be the appliance itself—it could be a blocked vent.

A little attention now can help prevent bigger problems down the road.

Hopefully no major storms. But if we get a lot of lightning and a lot of wind there are some things you can do to protect your appliances. You don't necessarily have to unplug them you can flip your breaker. Usually I unplug the computer stuff. Obviously you don't want to unplug your refrigerator but if you do lose power do not open your doors. Your refrigerator will maintain cold proper temperatures 6 to 8 hours unless you open the doors. If you have an electric dryer on a 240 circuit surely doesn't hurt to flip it off if you know how to do it Don't worry about unplugging it might be more work than necessary.
After the storm if appliances seem to be acting weird unplug them and reboot or flip them off at the breaker and restart and that sometimes can resolve problems.

To all of my amazing customers. First off I'm letting everyone know that I'll be off for the rest of the week (1-26 to 2-3)
/ Vacation / health..
I hope everybody is staying safe during this cold weather. There are some side effects to prolong cold weather in the garage. On older refrigerators with regular thermostat controlled temperature there are times that The freezer side could warm up to match the refrigerator side. This usually happens on Frigidaire top mount refrigerators. When the temperature in the garage is equal to refrigeration temperature around 36° the thermostat will no longer cycle preventing the freezer from maintaining freezing temperatures.. sounds weird right kind of opposite of what we would think but that's how the older thermostat style refrigerators work. Modern refrigerators with computer controlled should maintain these temperatures better in a cold garage.

Just check on your frozen items to make sure that nothing's warming up or becoming thawed. We don't want health hazards.

Stay safe in these cold temperatures. Make sure your dryer vents did not get covered up by snow drifts before running your dryer.

Well here it is again. We're going into the holiday cooking season, so I'm posting my annual tips:

1. Never use the self-clean feature on an oven especially before Thanksgiving.

Self-clean gets the oven to a thousand degrees or more and turns all the debris to dust. Unfortunately, modern ovens have a hard time taking this much heat and it usually causes problems. So if you want a nice clean oven before Thanksgiving do it the old fashioned way. Or if you're oven has a steam clean feature, that's the better choice. In my opinion, don't clean your oven until after the holiday season.

2. Don't put open containers of liquid or hot food into the refrigerator. All should be covered or closed before putting in the refrigerator. The refrigerator is a big dehumidifier and it sucks out the moisture from liquids, fruits, vegetables and leftovers. It's always better to have everything covered. And open and close the doors as quickly as possible. Especially with citrus fruits. Citrus fruits are very acidic. And when you put them in your refrigerator it sucks out those acids and deposits them on the aluminum evaporators. This is not good for your cooling system. In time it starts to break down the metals. You should always cover any fruits that are high in acids. Cover all your leftovers. Do your homework on how to properly store leafy vegetables to skin vegetables etc.
This also goes for opened drinks like teas Kool-Aids soda pops anything that has sugary contents. Keep everything covered and it'll make your refrigerator last longer and smell better.

3. 99.99999% of everything needs to go into trash and NOT down the garbage disposal. Think of your home plumbing as arteries in your body. The more things coagulate, the more constricted the artery gets, and then your home has a heart attack.

4. 99.99999% of food needs to be scraped into the trash BEFORE placing dishes into the dishwasher. Most modern dishwashers have filters, not choppers. You want to keep your dishwasher sanitary and in normal working condition, so prevent solid foods from going into the dishwasher. It's an old wives tale that your dishes need to be a little dirty so your dishwasher knows how much to clean. Trust me the OWL sensor in your dishwasher will be just fine without dirty dishes.

5. Prevent from running your microwave for excessive amounts of time. Most microwaves can handle it, some not so much. I would say about 7 to 10 minutes of continuous run time is about the max I would recommend running the microwave, then let it cool down before running it again. Clean the inside of the microwave especially on the right hand side where the cardboard looking piece is. (waveguide cover) when that gets dirty it will sometimes allow the microwaves to bounce around incorrectly and cause damage to your magnetron antenna. When cleaning it just use a lightly damned water only cloth and let it dry before using the microwave.

6. Safe temperature settings for your refrigerator should be 0° for the freezer and 35-36° for the refrigerator. Basically we want the refrigerator as cold as it'll get without freezing food. Above 40° bacteria starts to grow really quick and nobody wants food poisoning. Reheat all leftovers thoroughly. And my final saying, "when in doubt throw it out!"

I hope everybody has a happy amazing successful holiday cooking season. But if you have any questions, please text me at 918-280-9509.

And if you did not heed my warning and used self-clean on your oven Wednesday. I am not working on Thanksgiving. Cheers everyone!

We had quite the electrical storm yesterday. If You are having any appliance issues today My recommendation is to reboot the machine. If you are able to unplug it, unplug it for at least a few minutes and then plug it back in if you can't reach the plug try to turn it off at the breaker.
I am having a very high call volume right now which is pushing me a few days out. Back to school is always a busy week for all of us. Stay safe text me for any questions 918-280-9509
