☕ Celebrating a Small Business with a Rich Backstory
Today’s WWBIC event at Aroma Café in West Allis was a masterclass in entrepreneurship, culture, and community.
Owners Lucy and Mateo Torres shared their journey from a small coffee stand in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico, to opening their dream café in West Allis, serving wood-fired coffee roasted in Puerto Rico with pride and purpose.
Their story of relocation and growing their business after Hurricane Maria is one of true resilience. And the coffee? I had the Aroma Signature Coquito Latte — smooth, creamy, and absolutely delicious.
One line from Lucy captured the spirit of the day:
“It’s not where you stand, it’s how you stand.”
That’s the essence of entrepreneurship — standing tall, no matter the storm.
