on our last day of adventure in Ciudad De Mexico before returning to NYC. Huerto Roma Verde, in the very central Roma neighborhood of CDMX, is an urban permaculture garden and community center that demonstrates what our urban centers can be like when communities come together with care and compassion for one another and our planet.

The space hosts an organic garden, organic food & sustainable craft vendors, workshops, classes, healing ceremonies (Temezcal/sweat lodge on slide 8), a movement & martial arts studio, artisanal shops, cafes/restaurants, and much more.

Huerto Roma Verde was formed on the grounds of the ruins of an apartment complex that fell to the ground during a devastating earthquake in 1985. In 2012 various community groups and activists alongside a nonprofit group, La Cuadra, cleaned the site and created Huerto Roma Verde - an urban garden and community center that is "a flagship of environmentalism, urban permaculture and community development." Built on the grounds of a tragedy, Huerto Roma Verde exemplifies that, when people come together in community, the ruins of the past can shape a brighter future for the next generation.

In the early days of this New Year, in a time when we need most to honor those who give of themselves for our people and planet, we honor 🌿 Joshua Douglass🌿 for his works at Arc 38 and his lifelong dedication to environmental & civil rights advocacy!

💧 Legally preventing the sprawling overdevelopment of Near-The-Arc Silo Ridge resort community and excavation of toxic landfill wastes Silo Ridge would have imposed on Amenia and it's waterways

💧 💰Spearheading organic winery development - ’s Vineyards https://naturesvineyards.com/2025/10/water-is-life-and-long-islands-future-depends-on-remembering-that/ with organic, biodynamic, regenerative wine products that are also funding Long Island groundwater protection & broader environmental advocacy

🪷 Championing the wellbeing and prosperity of the working class and common folks through a life dedicated to civil and environmental rights legal advocacy

🫶 Incorporating the original community into a 501c3 nonprofit, paving the path for federal recognition and tens of thousands of dollars of tax deductible donations from the ARC community

Josh was hesitant when I told him I wished to honor him personally - he'd initially rather attention be brought on his current battle of protecting the Special Groundwater Protection Area in Islip, Long Island ( https://naturesvineyards.com/2025/10/water-is-life-and-long-islands-future-depends-on-remembering-that/
) However, in spite of some resistance to center and care for himself- in our opinion a detriment to his work to some degree as many lifelong activists experience burnouts - he did agree it is important for us to honor all those who fight for a better future.

Following up on our early 2020 expedition to Teotihuacán, this year we've extensively explored the ancient cities of Mexico.

These Aztec & Mayan civilizations often rivaled or surpassed the technologies and urban engineering feats occurring in Europe and Asia at their peaks - we did not accrue the engineering technology to build structures like the pyramids until well into the 20th century!

1-8 Chichen Itza: The civilization in the the shadow of El Castillo (1), one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

9-12 Cholula : Right outside Puebla, An ancient pyramid buriedhidden beneath a colonial era hilltop church, blending centuries of Indigenous and Colonial history.

13-17 Monte Albán near Oaxaca: The ancient Zapotec capital, where the clouds meet the ruins.

18-20 Mountain view from Tepozteco : A long trek up to a mountaintop fortress-pyramid that rests above Tepoztlan, just one hour south of CDMX

In honor of May Day and all the beautiful souls who brought their hearts to The Arc, worked hard to save The Arc from foreclosure, ran programs in harmony with the land, and made it accessible to so many people who benefited from the space - and we continue to hold hope to serve many more in years to come - We honor Geni Dedam for her ongoing advocacy of The Arc and so many more regenerative community spaces throughout the Northeast and beyond - YOU TOO CAN HONOR THE WORK OF OUR ARC ALLIES AND ALLIES WORLING TOWARDS REGENERATIVE FUTURE IN OTHER SPACES 💜 DM for access to this template

Made clear the legal distinction between the two parcels of Arc 38 that bought us time to save Bill Henry's land & Maintaining her steadfast mission to make regenerative community & permaculture education accessible

Offering her expertise & experience as a nonprofit professional to source grants and additional resources for the newly federally recognized Arc-38, Inc. nonprofit

Ensuring residents of The Arc in need applied for and received resources available to them, assuring their wellbeing
