Oil and gas industry predicting their own decline. Just not fast enough, however.

"The transition is inevitable and powerful. But WoodMac’s projections are still far behind the emissions scenarios that scientists say are necessary to mitigate the worst effects of climate change. In a report released by the U.N. this month, authors claimed the world needs to get 70 to 85 percent of its electricity from renewables by mid-century to limit warming to 1.5°C."

Many nations aren’t living up to their promises in the 2015 accord, and the consequences could be “catastrophic.”

Dirty energy is a dying industry, no amount of shenanigans will save it.

"Jody Freeman, director of the environmental law program at Harvard Law School and a former Obama climate adviser, said the latest Trump proposal was more about sending a message. In the Arctic in particular, she said, low oil prices and the decision by Royal Dutch Shell to give up all but one of its federal oil leases indicate drilling is not on the near horizon."

The proposal would give the energy industry access to more than a billion acres, dealing a blow to President Barack Obama’s environmental legacy.

This is what true visionary leadership looks like.
This is what the future (actually, the here & now) looks like.
The only thing preventing this from happening (faster) is the politicians that are in the pockets of the fossil fuel industry.
However, it's inevitable, the extraction economy is dying and a new, bold, clean future is ahead of us.
The only question that remains...is on what side of history will those in positions of 'leadership' be?
