Your sump pump is working great. Until the power goes out during the same storm that's flooding your basement.
This is one of the most common scenarios we respond to in NE Ohio every June. A severe thunderstorm knocks out electricity and the primary sump pump stops. Battery backup pumps help, but standard residential units typically run 4 to 8 hours before they're depleted. After a night of continuous storms, that may not be enough.
A properly sized battery backup sump system, combined with a water alarm that sends a text alert if your pit level rises, gives you a fighting chance of catching a problem before it becomes a flood.
If your backup system is older than 5 years, battery capacity has likely degraded significantly without any visible sign.
We assess sump systems as part of our drainage and moisture evaluations. AquaCare Club members get this covered annually as part of their inspection.
Don't find out how old your battery is when you need it most.
