PASTURE RAISED DOES NOT MEAN “GRASS FED.” 🐔🐷🐮🌱

So at one of our farmers markets this weekend, a woman REFUSED to buy our chicken because it was NOT GRASS FED. “I only eat grass fed chicken.” She said. I was mostly surprised, as I had never heard of this practice in poultry.

So, I went on to explain to her why our chickens and pigs aren’t grass fed, due to the fact that the digestive system was not the same as cows. Cows are herbivores that are ruminants designed to thrive on grass, but chickens are not and they cannot “thrive” on grass alone. Could they survive? I’m guessing yes, but they aren’t going to reach their fullest potential and food capabilities.

She went on to say “well this is an Amish farm and they feed them lots of bugs.” ****The term Amish is defined as a “sect” of people. It doesn’t necessarily verify a particular stamp of food quality or farming practice. That being said I did look up the farm that was being referred to, AND…….. the website explains the chicken is “organic PASTURE RAISED.”

For my own educational purposes I would really love to get some feedback on 100% grass fed pork and/or chicken. IS THERE SUCH A THING?? Thank you in advance.
