The Transcell Signal Link is one of the most accurate load cell signal conditioners available, with a system nonlinearity (total nonlinearity from input to output) of ±0.002% of full scale. Converting the signal for a PLC, motion controller, or data acquisition system is only part of what it does.

It has its own display, so settings can be checked and adjusted from the front-panel keys, without a laptop. Three relay outputs can run a stack light, toggle a valve or motor, or trip a switch, and a discrete input lets an external signal start a logic cycle. When a PLC needs to capture a measurement result, the Signal Link can send an analog signal and Modbus RS-485 data simultaneously.

The Signal Link does the work of a transmitter, an indicator and a batch controller, all in one device.

A load cell reports force. What it actually measures is deflection.

That holds whether the reading ends up as weight on a floor scale or as force on a test stand. Inside the load cell is a machined block of steel or aluminum, engineered to deflect a small and highly predictable amount under load. Strain gauges, thin foil resistors, are bonded to that block. As the metal deflects the gauges deflect with it. That changes their electrical resistance, which unbalances the bridge circuit they are wired into, which changes the output voltage. The indicator converts that voltage into a reading.

The deflection is smaller than most people assume. At full scale a load cell moves less than a hundredth of an inch. That tiny movement is what the entire measurement rests on.
