the fokus’d takeaway is a collection of human-first reflections on what community members gained, felt, and carried forward from a shared experience.

These reflections are from Western New York’s first Creative Sustainability Summit which was a partnership between Squeaky Wheel Film Neighbor Network shellie schmals and Get Fokus'd Productions where we united to bring Emily Best of Seed&Spark to Buffalo to share her expertise in crowdfunding and distribution within the film industry. During our time together we were able to unite and share through what we love the most… storytelling.

Get Fokus'd Productions was privileged to be in the room to gather these reflections and to share them with you. Hope you’ve gained from these insights!

Western New York’s first Creative Sustainability Summit was an event for learning, a gathering for connection, and a space where media artists could access resources and guidance for their careers.

Filmmakers, independent creators, educators, production professionals, and creative-industry partners gathered at Villa Maria College to share knowledge, build relationships, and strengthen sustainable pathways in film and media.
In partnership with Seed&Spark , we welcomed filmmaker Emily Best - Emily Best, Seed&Spark’s founder and CEO. Through crowdfunding, education, audience-building, and distribution support, Seed&Spark helps independent filmmakers develop the tools, relationships, and strategies needed to bring their projects forward.

Get Fokus’d Productions was proud to produce this summit alongside Squeaky Wheel, Film Neighbor Network, and shellie schmals. Our work uses media arts to document community impact while equipping emerging creatives with the access, resources, and guidance to become empathetic, human-first digital storytellers.

What happens when people gather with intention?

Ideas move, stories surface, connections grow, and the work begins to take shape. A few moments from the room.

This visual recap is from the WNY Creative Sustainability Summit, where Western New York filmmakers and creatives came together to explore crowdfunding, independent distribution, and the resources needed to build sustainable creative careers.

A room full of ideas, honest conversation, and people committed to making creative work more sustainable.

We were grateful to support the WNY Creative Sustainability Summit 2026 by documenting the moments, connections, and community that made the day what it was. Big love to the speaker Emily Best of Seed&Spark, the organizers Squeaky Wheel Film Neighbor Network shellie schmals Get Fokus'd Productions, the artists, creative support professionals, and everyone who showed up ready to listen, share, and move the work forward.

Because a sustainable creative future takes more than talent. It takes access, resources, guidance, and each other.

Special thanks to Villa Maria College for your continued support and commitment to our creative communities.
