Congratulations to Thomas Baines on being a City and State Trailblazer in Real Estate!

Before joining Buffalo City Hall, Thomas E. Baines led housing and development work across Erie County, the Batavia Housing Authority and the Buffalo Urban Renewal Agency. He helped lead Erie County’s $25 million affordable housing initiative and launch a $34 million regional broadband expansion. Now, Baines is advancing downtown reactivation and a stabilization-first policy redirecting about $700,000 annually from demolition toward preserving viable buildings. Baines is also pressing to return the now-closed Buffalo Grand Hotel to productivity, guiding the property through court proceedings, market analysis and the search for investment.

Buffalo has many giant historic buildings that are badly in need of as much as $300 million of rehab. So state Sen. April N.M. Baskin wants to triple the state's historic tax credit to $15 million for these "white elephants."
