Part 3 of 3 on businesses in transition. And I want to end this series with something personal.

On June 24, I will be on a panel at a local women's leadership event, talking about what it actually looks like to lead through change. Not the polished version. The real one.

Businesses in transition do not follow a neat timeline. They ask founders to make decisions with incomplete information, to trust new leaders before the trust has fully been earned, and to let go of control before the systems are fully in place.

That is the hard part. And it is also the part worth talking about in public.

If you are in that stretch right now, I would love to see you there.

More details coming soon. Save June 24.

There is a real difference between a doer and an operator.

A doer is exceptional at tasks. They move fast, produce output, and can hold a lot in their head at once.

An operator holds the system.

They do not just do the work. They design the structure that lets other people do the work without constant translation from above.

Most founder-led businesses have plenty of doers. What they often lack is someone who can build and own the operational layer so the founder is not the integrator by default.

That gap is where a fractional COO makes the most difference. Not to add more hands, but to install a different kind of leadership. One that thinks in systems, owns accountability, and frees you to lead at the level your business actually needs.

You don’t need more noise.
You need better questions.
At this panel, we’re not talking theory—we’re tackling the stuff that actually determines whether your business survives or stalls.
Here’s a preview of what’s getting unpacked
Are you growing… or just getting busier?
What’s quietly breaking your business right now?
What mistake will cost you in 2 years?
These aren’t surface-level conversations.
These are the questions most people avoid—until it’s too late.
If you’re building something real…
This is the room you want to be in.

If the Friends cast took the Kolbe A™ Index:
𝗥𝗼𝘀𝘀 — High Fact Finder.
Needs all the research. Will bring 47 slides to a decision that needs three.

𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮 — High Follow Through.
The system IS the plan. Do not touch the system.

𝗣𝗵𝗼𝗲𝗯𝗲 — High Quick Start.
Already three ideas into the next thing before the first one has a name.

𝗝𝗼𝗲𝘆 — High Implementor.
If he cannot taste it, hold it, or build it, it does not feel real yet.

𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗹𝗲𝗿 — Low Implementor.
Could this BE any more abstract?

No type is better than another. The real question is whether your leadership team has the right mix for where your business is right now.

Which one are you? Drop it in the comments.

"Businesses in transition" is not a polished category. It is a real moment.

The CEO who just sold a division and now needs to rebuild a leadership team around a smaller, more focused company.

The founder who built something from zero, hit meaningful scale, and now needs to step back from operations but the business does not yet run without them.

The company that has hit a growth ceiling and suspects the structure is the problem, not the market.

These are not failure states. They are inflection points.

What makes the difference is whether the leadership structure can carry the business through the change, or whether it becomes the bottleneck.

(Part 2 of 3. Part 3 comes next week.)

If your business is in a transition right now, I would love to connect.

Early Friday mornings with this “award winning” ACA Schaumburg Business Development Team are always an adventure ☕️🧢

Huge thanks to CJG Partners for the swag this month — the matching hats make us look significantly more organized than we actually are. 😂

One of the things I genuinely love about ACA Schaumburg is that it goes way beyond traditional networking. Between our weekly Friday coffees and smaller groups like this, it creates real conversations, collaboration, accountability, and relationships with other local business leaders who actually want to see each other win.

It’s also one of the few rooms where you can talk business growth, referrals, leadership challenges, and somehow still laugh for half the meeting.

If you’ve ever been curious about ACA Schaumburg, I’d be happy to host you as my guest at one of our Friday coffee meetings sometime. ☕️

Shoot me a message — we’d love to have you.

The Kolbe Index measures four instinctive action modes. Everyone holds a natural position within each one.

𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿: How you gather and use information. Do you need full context before you commit, or do you move on a general read of the situation?

𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵: How you approach structure. Do you build systems and hold to them, or do you adapt fast and work across multiple approaches at once?

𝗤𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁: How you handle risk and change. Do you push forward into ambiguity, or protect what works and bring stability?

𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿: How you work with physical or tangible elements. Do you need to build something concrete, or do you work in the abstract?

No profile is better than another. What changes when you use Kolbe at the leadership level is not who is qualified. It is who will execute well in this specific environment, right now.

Want to see how your instinctive strengths show up in your business?

Running a business as a woman looks very different today than it did 10 years ago…
But some things haven’t changed.

❌ Burnout still takes people out
❌ Underpricing still happens early
❌ Growth without structure still causes problems

What HAS changed:
✅ More access to funding and support
✅ Stronger communities
✅ Better conversations about sustainability (not just hustle)
✅ More women building businesses that actually LAST

This panel is all about that shift.
Not just starting a business…
but building one that survives long-term.
