Sevillian Laboratories had the opportunity to participate in the Spring 2026 Rutgers University MBS Externship Exchange Program - a unique 12-week long initiative designed to connect graduate students with industry through real-world, project-based collaboration. For companies, the program provides access to high-caliber talent, structured ex*****on, and fresh, data-driven perspectives at no cost. While students are expanding their professional skills, organizations benefit from new ideas, structured project ex*****on, and meaningful insights that can help advance strategic initiatives.

The program concludes with Lightning Talk Presentations, where teams deliver concise, high-impact summaries of their work—followed by student recognitions and audience voting for the top presentations. This year’s cohort included organizations such as Colgate-Palmolive, Ingredion Incorporated, Bayer, Puratos Group, Robertet Group, Philadelphia Phillies - highlighting the program’s strong industry reach.

For our team, this externship was a valuable experience that not only expanded our capabilities, but also provided new insights into how we can continue to grow and improve as an organization. We effectively doubled our team and benefited from academic collaboration, thoughtful problem-solving, and detailed feedback from the student’s perspectives – gaining insights we can now apply to our day-to-day operations and future objectives. A special shoutout to Lori Dars for recommending this program, our Advisors Joey Liu, Ph.D., MBA and Varsha Kripalani for guiding the students, and our amazing team - Gary, Demi, Nichitha, Jason, and Makrand - for all of your hard work!

The Rutgers Professional Science Master's Program is now accepting applications for Summer and Fall cohorts. We highly encourage both prospective students and fellow businesses to experience this incredible opportunity!

PACK EXPO East was vibrant with energy last week at the Pennsylvania Convention Center - Philadelphia, PA (Philly) - bringing together more than 500 exhibiting companies and welcoming 7,300 attendees over three days all within 125,000 sq ft of exhibition space. The showroom floor showcased the latest packaging and processing solutions from scalable options for growing businesses to advanced automation systems for large manufacturers. For companies evaluating packaging strategies or investing in operational efficiency, this event remains a valuable industry touchpoint.

Beyond the exhibit hall, educational panels delivered insights into emerging packaging trends and regulatory developments. At the Industry Speaks stage, the National Science Foundation (NSF) introduced updates on evolving food and beverage packaging regulations, including the NSF P525 certification protocol focused on reducing risks associated with potentially harmful chemicals. At the Innovation Stage, H.B. Fuller’s technical experts highlighted advancements in industrial adhesives, tapes, and coating technologies that are shaping packaging performance and sustainability. Sevillian Laboratories concluded the day at the “Taste of Philly” reception, where industry leaders gathered to exchange ideas and discuss what’s next for packaging innovation.

From sustainable materials to automation and AI-driven systems, PACK EXPO East continues to serve as a hub for industries focused on efficiency and long-term growth. If you missed this year’s event, PACK EXPO continues its global tour before returning to Philadelphia in March of 2028!

Sevillian Laboratories recently joined the NJ Food Processors Association (NJFPA) On The Road event hosted at Death of the Fox Brewing Company in Clarksboro, NJ. We enjoyed a behind-the-scenes tour and crash course on brewing led by owner Charles Garrity – hearing the humble beginnings to his business and even getting to sample his very first home brew, Scrumptious Pumpkous! It was a privilege to meet so many entrepreneurs and business owners that produce safe and high-quality foods in South Jersey.

For food entrepreneurs, NJFPA serves as a valuable resource for understanding the complexities of the food distribution landscape. Through its conferences, educational initiatives, and ongoing networking events, the organization supports informed decision-making around product development, packaging, regulatory considerations, and market access. We appreciate NJFPA and the event sponsor PMMI: The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies for fostering a collaborative environment that helps food businesses grow with confidence.

And of course, we had to take a group photo!
Jenny Washart and William T. Hoffman, at Hoffman's Exterminating, Josh Fisher at B & B Poultry Co., Inc., Zanda Pemba, Ph.D. and Tyrone Green from Matanga Research, Tim Guim at PCH Technologies.
