Tested a home in Fort Mayers this week. Here's what came out.
🟡 Yellow = chlorine
Your city puts it there on purpose. It kills bacteria in the pipes.
Not a scandal. But it's why your water tastes like a pool.
🔵 Blue = alkaline pH

Ran a full test on a home in Fort Myers this week. Here's what came back.
🟡 Yellow = chlorine
Your utility puts it there on purpose. It keeps bacteria out of the pipes between the plant and your kitchen.
Not a scandal. But it's why your coffee tastes like a pool.
🔵 Blue = alkaline pH
Southwest Florida sits on limestone. It pushes pH up.
Straight up: pH won't hurt you. The EPA doesn't even list it as a health standard.
But it's a clue. High pH around here usually means hard water is right behind it.
🫧 The soap jars = hardness
This is the one that matters.
Same water. Same soap. Same shake.
One foams up thick and white. The other goes cloudy and barely lathers.
That cloudy stuff is soap scum — calcium grabbing your soap before it ever cleans anything.
This home came back at 20 grains per gallon.
Anything over 7 is considered hard. This was three times that.
What that costs you every month:
More detergent. More shampoo. Scale building on your water heater element. Appliances that quit early.
Nobody hands you a bill for it. You just pay it.
