Long-term restoration requires long-term commitment, and Long Lake is a great example of what that commitment can achieve.

A recent Washington State Lake Protection Association article highlighting restoration efforts at Long Lake in Thurston County, Washington, showcases the progress made through a science-based, adaptive management approach focused on reducing internal phosphorus loading. Monitoring data indicate major reductions in phosphorus concentrations since restoration efforts began, helping improve water quality and reduce conditions that favor harmful algal blooms.

By combining ongoing monitoring with targeted phosphorus sequestration treatments, local partners have demonstrated that meaningful improvements can be achieved while working within annual management budgets.

The success at Long Lake highlights an important lesson for water resource managers everywhere: Address the phosphorus. Restore the ecosystem.

We are grateful to work alongside Thurston County, Long Lake Lake Management District, AquaTechnex, and the many community members committed to restoring and protecting this valuable resource.

On World Lake Day, we celebrate the vital role lakes play in supporting healthy ecosystems, communities, and economies across the globe.

At EutroPHIX, we are committed to delivering measurable, lasting water quality restoration outcomes for lakes impacted by nutrient pollution and harmful algal blooms. Through a science-led approach, proven technologies, and decades of expertise, we partner with public agencies, private stakeholders, and Stewards of Water to restore and protect these valuable resources.

Earlier this year, EutroPHIX completed the initial treatment phase of our Lake Okeechobee water quality demonstration, successfully removing more than 17,000 pounds of legacy phosphorus from the lake. This milestone highlights the impact that innovative science, scalable solutions, measurable results, and strong partnerships can have on improving water quality and ecosystem health.

The opportunity to restore and protect some of the nation's most important water bodies inspires our team every day as we continue advancing practical, measurable, and science-driven water quality solutions.

Happy World Lake Day!

Next week, our team and partners Clear Waters Inc., and Applied Aquatic Management, will begin our water quality restoration treatments on Lake Okeechobee.

This demonstration is being led by EutroPHIX in partnership with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to reduce internal phosphorus loading in Lake Okeechobee.

What will happen on the water:

During scheduled work windows, crews will apply EutroSORB G from vessels across a defined treatment area. The material is designed to permanently bind phosphorus in the top layer of the sediments, preventing it from releasing into the water column and degrading water quality.

The initial demonstration area is approximately 1,000 acres.
