A Simple Recycling Guide:

Recycling only works if we do it correctly. Putting the wrong items in the bin can contaminate everything and send it straight to the landfill.

Rule #1
Do not bag your recycling. Facilities cannot sort items when they’re tied up in bags, and plastic bags are generally not recycled. Bagged recycling often ends up in the landfill and just creates more plastic waste.

Before You Recycle:

Empty all containers
Rinse them out
Make sure they are dry

Recycle These:

Paper, mail, newspapers
Cardboard boxes (flattened)
Plastic bottles and containers marked #1, #2, or #5
Aluminum and steel cans
Glass bottles and jars

Do not put these items in curbside recycle programs:

Plastic bags or plastic wrap
Styrofoam
Food-soiled paper or containers
Diapers, paper towels, tissues
Cords, hoses, or wires - Look to local muni website
Broken glass or ceramics

Items That Need Special Drop-Off:

Plastic bags and film
Batteries
Electronics
Household chemicals
Clothing and textiles

Dirty items can ruin an entire batch.

Good Rule to Remember:
It’s better to recycle one item correctly than ten items incorrectly.
