We're excited to share that TBK Environmental made the 2026 list, and proud to announce that we're #6 in Environmental Services nationally, in our very first year on the list.

Rankings like this are a reflection of a team that brings real expertise to the work every single day, and treats every client like the relationship matters more than the transaction. That's how trust gets earned.

It's also a reflection of the trust our clients placed in us with something as consequential as their compliance, their operations, their risk.

This growth has also sharpened our focus. We're not just moving waste — we're finding value in it.

Our Waste-to-Value (W2V) approach is about more than sustainability. It looks at every stream a facility generates, not just the ones that show up on a compliance report, and asks a simple question: Is there a better outcome here? We've learned something interesting after walking through hundreds of facilities. Undocumented waste streams almost always show up in the same places.

No one is trying to hide them; they're simply the byproducts of busy operations, changing processes, employee turnover, and waste practices that haven't been revisited in years.

Where do we find them?
🔹 Maintenance & Facilities
Spent lubricants, used filters, absorbents, parts washers, and cleaning residuals often operate under disposal arrangements that haven't been reviewed in years. They're simply managed the way they've "always been done."

🔹 Packaging & Secondary Materials
Shrink wrap, corrugate, foam, and mixed plastics frequently end up in the dumpster without anyone evaluating whether they qualify for recycling or commodity recovery. In many facilities, that's money being thrown away.

🔹 Process Residuals Below the Regulatory Radar
Not every waste stream is hazardous, but every waste stream still requires proper evaluation. We often find materials labeled "non-hazardous" or "general industrial" with little or no documentation supporting that designation.

🔹 Legacy Waste Streams
Processes change. Operations evolve. Waste handling practices don't always keep up. It's not uncommon to find disposal methods that were designed for processes that no longer exist.

None of these issues are usually urgent emergencies, but they can create unnecessary disposal costs, compliance exposure, and missed opportunities for waste reduction and recovery.

Sometimes the biggest opportunities aren't hiding in complex systems. They're sitting in plain sight, waiting for someone to ask, "Why are we doing it this way?"

A drum of ignitable solvent waste may cost $500–$700 to dispose of as hazardous waste. What about a drum of rags used to wipe solvents?

A) Hazardous Waste (Same disposal requirements as solvent)
B) Universal Waste
C) Potentially excluded under the EPA solvent-contaminated wipes rule

Most people assume the answer is A.

In many cases, it’s actually C.

When properly managed, solvent-contaminated wipes may qualify for a regulatory exclusion under EPA rules.

That distinction can significantly impact:
✔ disposal costs
✔ waste classification
✔ operational handling
✔ documentation requirements

We’ve seen companies unknowingly overpay BY ALMOST 90% simply because nobody revisited how the waste stream was characterized.

Compliance matters. So does waste characterization.

You might be paying hazardous disposal rates for waste that isn't hazardous.

This is one of the most common — and most expensive — mistakes in waste management is over-classification, and it's quietly inflating disposal costs at facilities across the country.

Here's the thing: most facilities don't realize:
Under RCRA, the generator is responsible for determining whether their waste is hazardous — not the hauler, not the disposal facility, not the profile sheet from five years ago.

That determination must be made, documented, and defensible.
No documented basis = no way to challenge what you're paying.

Waste is hazardous if it's on a listed waste code — or exhibits one of four characteristics: ignitability, corrosivity, reactivity, or toxicity.

If it doesn't meet those criteria and you can document why, it is not hazardous waste.

Once it’s properly documented, disposing of it as hazardous isn’t a precaution; it’s a cost.

Pick one stream you've never formally evaluated.
Pull the SDS.
Document the process.
Run the criteria.

Most of this material is being thrown away. Not because it has no value.
Because most manufacturers don’t know what to do with it.

The TBK Environmental team has successfully supported recovery and reuse opportunities for EVA material streams generated by solar manufacturing operations.

What you’re seeing here:
• EVA rolls (pre-lamination)
• EVA trim (post-lamination, crosslinked)
• Clean, consistent industrial production scrap
• High-volume recurring material streams

EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate) is commonly used in:
• Solar panel encapsulation
• Footwear foam
• Flexible cushioning and impact-resistant materials

The challenge is that not all EVA behaves the same.
* Pre-lamination EVA rolls can often be reprocessed.
* Post-lamination EVA becomes crosslinked, meaning it behaves more like rubber & requires specialized downstream handling and recovery solutions.

That’s where material characterization and recycling network visibility matter.

Across the U.S., manufacturers are paying to landfill recoverable industrial material streams simply because they’ve never been shown another path.

In many cases, improving material visibility doesn’t just support sustainability goals — it can also reduce disposal costs, improve operational efficiency, and uncover previously overlooked recoverable value streams.

Sometimes the biggest opportunities are already sitting behind the facility.

The difference between a vendor focused on pickups and a true waste management and environmental partner shows up long before an audit ever does.

The TBK Environmental team was on-site supporting a customer ahead of their grand opening, delivering a new roll-off and ensuring everything was in place for day one.

For us, it's about showing up, staying aligned, and making sure operations run smoothly when it matters most.

The ES&H role carries significant responsibility. Most of the time, waste compliance is one piece of it. So, if nothing's broken, why fix it? But "nothing's broken" and "everything's current" aren't the same thing.

The waste profile says one thing, but the process it was built on may have changed 18 months ago. The documentation just never caught up.

When an inspector shows up, the gap between what your profile says and what's in the drum isn't an operations problem anymore. It's yours.

Three ways we see it play out:
🟢 Everything defaults to disposal. Feels safe. Forecloses recycling options. Inflates costs..
🟢 Over-classification "to be safe." Adds regulatory burden and creates an audit trail that doesn't match reality.
🟢 Outdated profiles nobody revisited. No bad decision was made, just a good one that never got updated.

Compliance, without current data, isn't really compliance.
It's assumption management.
