I've Been Where You Are!

My name is Lowell Lane — most people around here just call me "The Get It Done Guy."

I've spent more than 30 years helping business owners build something that works — first in business-to-business sales and management, and later as the owner of five businesses of my own. I know what it's like to stare at a bank account and not be sure if the number is right. I know what it's like to hire the wrong person, chase the wrong customer, or realize six months in that a "great idea" needed a lot more structure than I gave it. I didn't learn this from a textbook. I learned it by building, breaking, and rebuilding — five times.

Today I'm a QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor and a Dave Ramsey Certified Financial Coach, and I spend my days doing the back-end work most business owners dread: bookkeeping, payroll, taxes, and operations.

Meals out ? Did you know the rules changed?

Beginning January 1, 2026, IRS rules under IRC §274(o) disallow deductions for certain employer-provided meals, specifically convenience-of-the-employer meals and employer-operated eating facility/cafeteria costs, dropping their deductibility to 0%.

Most standard client business meals and travel meals remain 50% deductible.
Nondeductible Meals (0% Deduction)Convenience of the Employer:
On-site meals provided to keep employees at work or available for shifts/emergencies no longer qualify for a deduction.
Company Cafeterias: Subsidized on-site cafeterias and eating facilities run by the employer are generally disallowed.
Entertainment: Standard entertainment expenses (tickets to games, golf outings) continue to stay entirely non-deductible.Partially Deductible Meals (50% Deduction)
Client & Business Meetings: Meals with clients, prospects, or internal staff during ordinary business discussions remain 50% deductible if a company representative is present and costs are not lavish.
Business Travel: Food and beverage costs incurred while traveling overnight for business follow the standard 50% limit.
Fully Deductible Meals (100% Deduction)Employee Social Events: Company-wide recreational or social events, like annual holiday parties or summer picnics, remain fully deductible.
Taxable Compensation: Meals treated as direct employee compensation (reported on Form W-2) or included in non-employee income are fully dedeductable.
