True Story - It has been awhile since we at D.P.P have done a True Story write up, after taking a closer look at the Southern music scene, Christmas 2016 was decidedly a great time to take you inside and on site of the Alabama cover and video of Christmas in Dixie by the band TRADEMARK of Mississippi. In our talk with the band we found this particular song and video held a lot of sentimental value for the guys, as it shows a bit more than the usual amount of their home life and individual personalities. First we take you to where the core of the band shots were filmed; on location at the edge of the Shiloh community in Itawamba County, MS. This fascinating little place, Jim “Buck” Murphy’s Store is truly a moment in time worth seeing at least once.
In talking with lead singer/frontman Charles Derrick, we were able to get more background information. “Christmas in Dixie is a song I can remember hearing around my house each Christmas when I was growing up in the 80’s. When I think about Christmas, I can’t help but think about this song!” We agreed that it was a great choice for the band and fans alike. “We stayed true to the Alabama sound of the song, because we all know that Alabama is awesome and did this song up to perfection, as they do all their songs.”
As many of you will notice when watching this video, the boys in the band TRADEMARK recently endured a line-up change when bassist Griffin Hardy decided that it was time for a change. The guys expressed that they will miss Griffin and wished him the best in his future endeavors. Times are now looking up for the southern born and bred Country Rawkers.
“We kinda like our new bass player,” says guitarist/prankster Lukas Elijah, “He looks a lot better in person” (Hint: come see the new show). The new addition, Jacob Brewer is a real pleasure to be around and sure packs a mean punch when it comes to holding down the low-end of the band’s sound and fantastic harmony vocals.
Drummer, Chas Henry, was extremely proud to have his family involved in the video project. You will notice that there are varying shades of color in his family, but what is not readily apparent is that his mom and dad are perfect examples of what love can do for children. Chas was adopted by his dad after his parents got married, and both of his sisters were adopted by both of his parents. “We grew up listening to all sorts of Christmas Albums while decorating their homes. My parents owned a copy of the Alabama Christmas album that Christmas in Dixie is on. It got played every year and is associated with family, fun, and goofy times.” - Chas Henry
The accompanying music video for Christmas in Dixie indeed shows some very intimate family moments that are very personal as well as heartwarming. Leyton Dane, the young child that is shown taking in all the wonders of Christmas is actually the youngest son of Charles Derrick and his beautiful wife Courtney shown in the video.
Christmas in Dixie has been one of the most well received songs TM has released. With no “dislikes” on YouTube and views and shares that continue to grow. It’s has quickly become a favorite and a tradition for the guys and their fans alike.
The guys in the band plan on closing this year out thanking God for their families and good friends who make this all possible.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
